VTECH settles pending lawsuit: company protects intellectual property rights of electronic learning toy line

WHEELING, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 19, 1995--VTECH Industries Inc., the leading manufacturer of electronic learning toys, today announced settlement of its lawsuit pending in the Federal District Court in Chicago against Tiger Electronics of Vernon Hills, Ill.
VTECH first filed the suit in mid-May, suing for trademark and trade dress infringement. Under the terms of the settlement, Tiger will remove VTECH's brand name, "Video Painter," from its "Video Quest Master Computer." In addition, Tiger will alter the overall trade dress appearance of its recently introduced simulated laptop computer toy.
"As the leading manufacturer of electronic learning toys, we must aggressively protect our intellectual property rights," said Raymond McDonald, executive vice president of VTECH. "Among other assets, VTECH has built its success on a strong product line and carefully selected product names and design. As evidenced, we can, and will, take legal action against any individual or company that violates our rights."
VTECH Industries Inc., a U.S. division of Hong Kong-based VTECH Holdings Limited, is headquartered in Wheeling.
