Logic Works and Oracle team to deliver comprehensive data warehousing based on ERwin and Oracle7

Business Wire, June 21, 1995

PRINCETON, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 21, 1995--Logic Works Inc., the leading developer of client/server database modeling tools, Wednesday announced it is teaming with Oracle Corp. by joining their Warehouse Technology Initiative (WTI).

This new alliance will strengthen the current customer solution that combines ERwin, the leading data modeling tool, with Oracle7, the undisputed leader in database technology. ERwin models source databases, the new data warehouse model, and generates database schema that supports decision support requirements.

The Warehouse Technology Initiative (WTI) is a new alliance program developed by Oracle that provides customers with a complete data warehousing solution based on the industry-leading Oracle7 database and complementary third-party software products.

The program is designed to increase the quantity and quality of Oracle-based data warehousing solutions, providing customers with greater choice, specialized tools, Oracle-optimized products and streamlined support as they implement data warehouse technology.

"Data modeling is essential to succeed in data warehousing," stated Esli Badenhorst, chief technologist for Logic Works. "ERwin's reverse engineering capabilities allow users to capture the legacy data structures from multiple source RDBMSs, consolidate that information for a new data warehouse model, and then implement the Oracle-based data warehouse."

ERwin is a powerful application modeling tool that allows developers to create E-R (Entity Relationship) diagrams that define the legacy data elements and data that will comprise the data warehouse. ERwin also creates a data model for the Oracle data warehouse.

Through a direct Server FRE (Server Forward and Reverse Engineering) connection to the database catalog ERwin generates Oracle7 SQL, including triggers and stored procedures to enforce referential integrity as well as physical database schema and Oracle physical parameters. ERwin also reverse-engineers an existing database into a logical data model.

Logic Works Inc., founded in 1988, develops and markets low-cost, high-performance database and application design and business process modeling tools. The company's products enhance the development of desktop and client/server and business process re-engineering.

ERwin provides an intuitive way to design, maintain and migrate database applications from the desktop to the enterprise level. The company's headquarters are located in Princeton with operations in Switzerland. -0- ERwin is a registered trademark of Logic Works Inc.
