NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 22, 1995--Caldera Inc., the company that delivers Linux for business, Thursday announced its partnership with Canopy Technologies.
Canopy serves as an enabler in the computing industry, providing technical integration of emerging and existing computing technologies. Caldera intends to utilize Canopy's infrastructure as one of the means of selling and distributing their products, thus allowing their products to reach a broader base of customers.
Together, Caldera and Canopy intend to provide customers with integrated, well-supported solutions that solve specific business needs.
"The Caldera Network Desktop is a strategic technology for Canopy, serving as an important component in many of the vertical customer solutions that Canopy will provide," said Canopy President Craig Bradley.
Founded in October 1994, Caldera is built on the premise of leveraging the power of the Internet and the collaboration of partnerships to provide a commercial Linux solution that delivers robust functionality at an inexpensive price. The company will apply a non-traditional business model of adding value to Linux in the form of commercial interfaces and network services.
Additionally, the product brings a full-featured user interface and a strong set of APIs and tools to Linux's traditional UNIX-based environment. The resulting product will be made available commercially, while enhancements to the Linux kernel will be given back to the Internet community.
"Our partnership with Canopy will result in the integration of many important products with the Caldera Network Desktop. We're excited about Canopy's ability to bring these products to a broader customer base, furthering industry growth and creating more choices for customers," said Ransom Love, vice president of Caldera.
"Caldera offers a cross-platform, 32-bit, UNIX-like application and development environment that provides built-in network connectivity including the Internet, NetWare and UNIX. With Canopy, customers will not only enjoy the robust functionality of Caldera's Network Desktop, but will receive the added value of the integrated products and solutions Canopy and Caldera will provide."
Caldera Inc., a privately held company, established in 1994, empowers the Internet community, developers, OEMs, ISVs, industry partners and end users to collaborate, innovate, build and deliver meaningful computing alternatives to the business community.
