Killington Resort Closes For The Ski Season
Business Wire, June 4, 1995
KILLINGTON, Vt.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 4, 1995--Killington, the East's largest ski resort, wrapped up another season stretching more than seven months today as skiers and snowboarders make their final turns on the Superstar trail.
The first U.S. ski area to open for the 1994-95 season back on Oct. 3, Killington easily posted the East's longest season (214 days) for the 34th consecutive year.
Killington also continued its tradition of offering skiing in June for the 11th time, despite one of the warmest winters on record in Vermont. The June 4 closing date was the sixth latest in Killington's 36-year history. Once again, the Central Vermont resort proved its unmatched commitment to making snow whenever possible and for as long as possible. Snowmakers last winter built a 30-foot "glacier" of machine-made snow on Superstar to ensure a season stretching into June for the fourth straight year.
Beginning June 10, Killington will offer its summer guests 50 miles of lift-served mountain bike trails and singletracks for riders of all abilities, guided interpretive hikes through the renowned Merrell Hiking Center and scenic chairlift rides to 4,241-foot Killington Peak -- the highest point reached by aerial lift in New England. Killington Golf Course and the prestigious Killington School for Tennis have already opened for the season.
