Toshiba reduces price by 15 percenton T4900CT mobile Pentium notebook computer
Business Wire, March 10, 1995
IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 10, 1995--To make mobile Pentium processing power more affordable for the corporate marketplace, the Computer Systems Division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) Friday reduced the suggested retail price of the T4900CT mobile Pentium notebook computer from $7,499 to $6,499, a 15 percent reduction effectively immediately.
"As Toshiba's flagship model, the T4900CT mobile Pentium notebook computer represents a series of technological advances in a portable platform, including the first 3.3-volt Intel 75MHz Pentium(tm) processor, the first implementation of high-speed EDO memory, a high-capacity 810 million byte (=772MB) hard disk drive, a brilliant 10.4-inch color TFT active-matrix display and a new powerful video subsystem," said Steve Lair, vice president of marketing for the Computer Systems Division of Toshiba America Information Systems Inc.
With the mobile Pentium processor, "The T4900CT significantly enhances the performance of powerful applications such as multimedia requiring high-frame software video playback, CAD/CAM engineering, software design and computer-based training and provides our customers with the best mobile computing solution for these graphics/processor-intensive applications," stated Lair.
The unique design of the T4900CT does not require the use of a fan, often associated with Pentium Processors. Toshiba's expertise of the tab-bonding manufacturing process, combined with Intel's integrated tape carrier packaging (TCP) which reduces the volume of the processor packaging, allows the chip to dissipate heat quickly and cleanly when it is tab-bonded to the motherboard.
The T4900CT Pentium notebook includes Toshiba's three-year limited warranty for parts and labor including international coverage in 23 countries at no cost. For a modest fee, customers may take advantage of other new service programs including no-fault coverage for screen damage, on site repair and shipping services.
In addition, Toshiba offers 24-hour/7-days-per-week on-line technical assistance through its toll-free number, 800/999-4273, an electronic bulletin board service, a CompuServe forum and dealer referrals for authorized service providers.
With headquarters in Irvine, and approximate annual sales of $2 billion, TAIS is comprised of seven divisions, which manufacture and market a wide range of business and information-oriented products in the United States. Products include portable computers, disk drives, plain paper copiers, facsimile systems, electronic key telephones and PBX systems, and toner products.
TAIS is an independent operating company, owned by Toshiba America, Inc., a subsidiary of the $44.9 billion Toshiba Corp. (the world's 20th largest corporation), a world leader in high technology products with 134 major consolidated subsidiaries worldwide.
Recognized as a leading manufacturer in portable computing, the TAIS Computer Systems Division markets the broadest range of ultra-portable, notebook, mobile multimedia and pen computers in the industry. For dealer referral or product literature, call: 800/334-3445.
