DIALOGIC AND MITEL TO COOPERATE IN DEVELOPMENT OF STANDARDS-BASED PRODUCTS; Interoperability Demonstration of Connection Master™ Software Controlling SCSA Hardware at Computer Telephony Expo, Dallas
Business Wire, March 2, 1995
PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 2, 1995--Mitel Corporation and Dialogic Corporation (NASDAQ:DLGC) have announced that they will cooperate in the development and marketing of standards-based computer telephony products.
Because Mitel is a founding member of the Multi-Vendor Integration Protocol (MVIP)(TM) and Dialogic has spearheaded the development of the Signal Computing System Architecture (SCSA), this is a significant step towards interoperability of computer telephony standards.
To demonstrate their cooperation, Mitel is showing its Connection Master software product controlling SCSA Hardware nodes as well as MVIP nodes at the Computer Telephony Expo in Dallas on March 7-9, 1995. Mitel has also announced its support of SCSA, an industry initiative to develop open computer telephony software and hardware standards that is now supported by over 260 companies worldwide.
The demonstration will consist of multiple PC nodes connected over a LAN. Mitel's Connection Master connectivity software will manage switching and connections among SCSA and MVIP nodes so that they act as a single system even though the individual nodes use different bus architectures. The demo will also include a remote SCSA node located in the Dialogic exhibit as part of the system.
"We're really pleased that Mitel has designed its Connection Master product to support the SCSA Hardware Model," says John Landau, VP of Marketing for Dialogic. "The Connection Master product solves the problems systems developers face in building large multi-node systems, even when the nodes use differing hardware architectures. It provides a straightforward means of controlling the underlying components, making it easier for many developers building systems with more than 50 available SCSA hardware products."
Cooperative Software Development to Enable Client Server Systems
Dialogic has also agreed to support Mitel in Mitel's development of a derivative of the Connection Master product that will be made available to work as a SCSA switch fabric controller that integrates with Dialogic's implementation of the SCSA Telephony Application Objects (TAO) software, combining the advantages of both products. Connection Master's multi-resource, multi-bus connection and switching control enables hardware and bus independence. Dialogic's implementation of the SCSA TAO system services enables distributed applications from multiple vendors to transparently share the resources of a single telephony platform. With these integrated products, not only will developers be able to build bigger systems, but they can also support all of a business' telephony services (individual, department, or enterprise-wide) through a single platform.
For example, instead of installing separate systems for interactive information response, messaging, and other computer telephony services, an enterprise could bundle all of the needed resources into a single server. The integration of the Connection Master switch fabric controller and SCSA TAO software services will provide support for multiple applications sourced from different vendors, either locally on the server, or elsewhere on a LAN. As a result, the resources could be shared for greater economy, and applications could share calls and information about the call, for more intelligent, integrated applications.
"We were very impressed by the SCSA software architecture and standard APIs defined by the SCSA technical working groups," adds Mike Foster, Head of Communicating Objects for Mitel Corporation. "We saw a lot of potential for integrated software combining Dialogic's SCSA server software with our switch fabric control services. Applications developers will win because their products will truly be hardware platform and bus independent. Together, our products will hide all of the server and connection control details from any client apps, which will be able to tap into a more powerful shared resource using a standard, well defined interface, the SCSA APIs."
Mitel Corporation is an international telecommunications solutions supplier, providing customer premise equipment, semiconductors, public switching systems, network enhancement and gateway products, PC communications products, and systems development software components. The company is active in major growth markets such as wireless, computer telephony integration, and emerging technology systems. Mitel is committed to advancing people to people communications in an open-distributed environment. Communicating Objects develops and markets open platforms for PC-based telephony, and enabling CTI components, middleware and subsystems for use by parties developing PC-based telephony applications.
Founded in 1983, Dialogic Corporation is a leading manufacturer of standards-based computer telephony hardware and software platforms, with more than one million ports shipped worldwide. In March 1993, Dialogic launched the Signal Computing System Architecture along with 70 other companies. SCSA defines open software and hardware architectural standards for building computer telephony systems with multiple technologies. SCSA is now supported by more than 260 industry suppliers. -0-
