Business Wire, March 28, 1995

MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 28, 1995--Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) and the Electronic Publishing Group (EPG) of Print NW/Six Sigma, today announced a strategic relationship and technology licensing agreement to provide Adobe Acrobat software as a key part of the EPG's electronic publishing services.

As a result of the agreement, EPG, an authorized Acrobat Information Integrator, will offer Adobe Acrobat technology as a solution for companies who want to convert print publications such as books, catalogs and manuals to electronic media for distribution via CD ROM and online services.

The Electronic Publishing Group provides services to convert a wide variety of documents into Adobe's Portable Document Format (PDF), an open file format that preserves the appearance of documents across all major computer platforms and printers. With Adobe Acrobat software, end users can view and print exact replicas of original documents including all graphics, illustrations and color. The EPG also develops custom Acrobat user interfaces and creates plug-ins, specialized software that enhance Acrobat software's core feature set.

As an authorized Acrobat Information Integrator, the EPG also provides licensing and distribution services for the entire family of Acrobat products to content publishers, OEMs, ISVs and VARs. Adobe Systems Inc. and the Electronic Publishing Group are currently engaged in marketing and promotional activities to support the worldwide introduction of these new services.

"Electronic distribution can save significant amounts of time and money through lower production and distribution costs," said Clifford Guren, vice president and general manager of the Electronic Publishing Group. "Many publishing houses see the advantages of information distribution via CD ROM and online services but don't know how to implement the technology effectively. With Adobe Acrobat software, we provide easy-to-use turnkey services that help our customers convert their print publications into electronic media."

"This agreement means that consumers gain access to huge amounts of visually-rich information quickly and easily," said John Warnock, chairman and CEO, Adobe Systems Incorporated. "By taking advantage of Acrobat software's extensible architecture and ability to link, annotate and search information, the Electronic Publishing Group adds significant value to the electronic publishing services it offers."
