SEAGATE ORGANIZES UNDER THREE CORE PRODUCT GROUPS; New Structure Provides Focused, Strategic Leadership in Data Storage, Components and Software Groups

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 29, 1995--Seagate Technology (NYSE:SEG) today announced the organization of the company around its three core product groups -- Storage Products, Components, and Software -- designed to address the challenges of storing, managing and accessing virtually infinite amounts of information. The company also announced the appointment of five executive vice presidents who will report to Alan Shugart, company chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Seagate's new Storage Products Group includes product research and development, worldwide manufacturing, materials and quality operations. Ron Verdoorn has been appointed executive vice president and chief operating officer for the group. Verdoorn, who joined Seagate in 1983, has served as vice president, Scotts Valley and Singapore Manufacturing Operations, vice president and general manager of the company's Thailand Operations, and most recently as senior vice president of Worldwide Manufacturing.
Seagate's new Components Group includes product research and development, worldwide manufacturing and quality. Dr. Brendan Hegarty will serve as the Components Group's executive vice president and chief operating officer. Dr. Hegarty joined Seagate in 1989 with the company's acquisition of Imprimis. He most recently held the position of senior vice president and chief technical officer, Components, and brings to his new role more than 25 years of experience in magnetic recording.
Seagate's new Software Group includes Crystal Software, Palindrome Corporation, Network Computing Inc., and NetLabs, as well as the management of the company's equity investment in Dragon Systems. Steve Luczo has been appointed executive vice president of Corporate Development and chief operating officer of the Software Group. Luczo joined Seagate in 1993 as senior vice president, Corporate Development, responsible for refining the company's strategic business development plans and assessing opportunities for investment and acquisition.
Separately, Don Waite has been appointed executive vice president and chief administrative officer. In addition to his current role as chief financial officer responsible for worldwide finance and accounting, Waite will now lead Seagate's worldwide human resources, legal, facilities and environmental, health, safety and security operations. Waite joined Seagate in 1983 as chief financial officer. He brings more than 25 years of experience in finance, accounting and administration to his new position.
Bernie Carballo has been appointed executive vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing. He will continue to lead Sales, Marketing, Product Line Management and Customer Service Operations for the Storage Products Group, as well as assume the additional responsibility for European Sales and Marketing for Seagate's Software Group. Most recently Seagate's senior vice president, Worldwide Sales and Marketing, Carballo joined the company in 1989 with Seagate's acquisition of Imprimis. He brings to his new position more than 20 years experience in the data technology industry.
