QUALCOMM and Mitsubishi Electric Corp. sign multi-million dollar CDMA license agreement

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 1995--QUALCOMM Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM) Tuesday announced that it has signed a multi-million dollar worldwide, royalty-bearing license agreement with Mitsubishi Electric Corp. of Japan.
This license builds on the support agreement that Mitsubishi signed in 1992, and allows the company to use QUALCOMM's Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) technology to manufacture and sell CDMA subscriber equipment, including mobile and portable telephones for cellular and Personal Communications Services (PCS).

"Since 1992, Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has carefully studied the cellular and emerging PCS markets and the digital technologies available to serve each of these markets," said Michio Nakanishi, general manager of Mitsubishi's Mobile Communication Business Center and deputy general manager of Communication Equipment Works.
"We believe that QUALCOMM's CDMA technology will be deployed in major portions of these markets throughout the world, and by signing this license agreement with QUALCOMM, we are fully committed to participating in the CDMA market as a CDMA equipment supplier."

Currently, the list of CDMA equipment licensees includes AT&T, Alps, Advantest, Goldstar, Hewlett-Packard, Hyundai, IFR Systems, Matsushita, Maxon, Mitsubishi, Motorola, NEC Corp., Nokia Mobile, Northern Telecom, Oki Electric, Rohde & Schwarz, Safco, Samsung, Schlumberger, and QUALCOMM Personal Electronics, a joint venture with Sony.
With headquarters in Tokyo, Japan, Mitsubishi Electric is a world leader in the manufacture and marketing of electrical and electronic products.
