Boca Research and Radish Communications announce Boca first with VoiceView certified modem
Business Wire, March 7, 1995
DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 7, 1995--Boca Research Inc. (NASDAQ:BOCI) and Radish Communications Systems Inc. will announce at the Computer Telephony Trade Show in Dallas on March 7 that Boca Research is the first modem vendor to receive VoiceView certification by Radish.
Boca's first modem to be VoiceView certified by Radish is their 14.4Kbps Multimedia Voice Modem (product code: FDV14I) with plans for additional modems to be certified in the months ahead. Based on Rockwell's chip set, it features a 14,400bps fax and data modem with voicemail system offering up to 1000 password-protected mailboxes.
The package comes complete with Radish's VoiceView TalkShop software, a Windows application that uses a VoiceView certified modem to allow voice and data transmission during a normal phone call.
With the included TalkShop software, users of the Boca Multimedia Voice Modem will be able to shop by phone while receiving product information on their computer screen, exchange electronic business cards, send and receive files and play interactive games with other VoiceView modem users. It also includes SoftNet's FaxWorks data and voice communications software, RJ-11 telephone cable, AT Command Reference Guide and easy-to-use documentation.
"Boca is known for its innovative and quality products," said Larry Steffann, vice president of operations for Boca Research. "We continue to look for ways to improve the value added to our products and we believe that Radish's VoiceView technology is an excellent way to offer our customers new capabilities while enhancing the applications of modem usage in the marketplace. We are excited to be the first of Radish's licensees to be awarded VoiceView certification which ensures that Boca products will work with all VoiceView products and services," he added.
The VoiceView technology developed by Radish is an open protocol currently being implemented by major PC, software and modem manufacturers. Because it is an open standard and doesn't require new architectures for voice/data integration, it is extremely cost effective and easy to implement. As a result, electronic commerce is now poised to become more widely accepted due to the convenience of VoiceView applications. Users can now preview and order their favorite merchandise directly from their PC with one simple phone call.
"Radish is working with many modem vendors and we are extremely pleased with the rapid acceptance of VoiceView in the marketplace," said Tom Cullen, Radish vice president. "Boca Research has shown its aggressiveness in the market by becoming the first company to successfully complete Radish's VoiceView quality and interoperability testing. As a result, the distinctive `VoiceView Certified' logo on Boca's product packaging will be a signal to consumers that their Multimedia Voice Modem is ready to use in the exciting new world of VoiceView products and services," he added.
Radish Communications Systems Inc. of Boulder, Colo. is the VoiceView company. Radish manufactures hardware and software to support the wide use of VoiceView technology. Its licensees include AT&T, Ameritech, Boca Research, Cirrus Logic, Dialogic, Digicom Systems, Digital Sound, GVC Technologies, Hayes Microcomputer Products, Inc., IBM, Intel, Microsoft, Multi-Tech Systems, Octel, Rockwell, U.S. Robotics and ZyXEL.
