DataTools introduces SQL-BackTrack for Oracle; delivers comprehensive strategy for Oracle backup and recovery
Business Wire, May 1, 1995
PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May l, 1995--DataTools, Inc. announced today the release of SQL-BackTrack for Oracle, a comprehensive, Database-Aware(TM) backup and recovery tool for Oracle databases.
SQL-BackTrack for Oracle supports Oracle version 6.x and above, including Oracle 7. SQL-BackTrack for Oracle will be available in early Q3 1995.
"We're excited to add SQL-BackTrack for Oracle to our suite of SQL-BackTrack products," said Jim Nisbet, executive vice president of DataTools. "DataTools is focused on building tools that support the growing number of mission-critical applications residing on client/server databases. By adding Oracle to our already successful SQL-BackTrack family, we can support a much broader range of customer needs."
SQL-BackTrack for Oracle addresses the need for simplified, standardized backup and recovery procedures in the expanding, heterogeneous database market. According to an enterprise networks market study carried out by Sentry Market Research (SMR) in 1995, systems management tools, notably backup/recovery and storage management, show the greatest opportunity for growth in the client/server environment. Planned purchases for client/server backup and recovery tools will grow 400% in 1995 over 1994 levels.
SQL-BackTrack for Oracle is a robust Database-Aware(TM) tool which integrates all aspects of ORACLE backup and recovery by automating backup, improving performance, and providing data security. SQL-BackTrack for Oracle's features include fast physical backup, smart recovery, an easy-to-use menu-driven interface, parallel backup streams, block-level incrementals, compression, and encryption.
SQL-BackTrack for Oracle, which shares a common back-end interface with the SQL-BackTrack for Sybase product, can be used to back up directly to disk or tape, or to any file system partner that integrates with DataTools' Open Backup Stream Interface (OBSI). These OBSI modules include AT&T CommVault's AT&T Backup, EMC's EpochBackup, IBM's Adstar Distributed Storage Manager (ADSM), and Legato's NetWorker.
Configuration, Price and Availability
SQL-BackTrack for Oracle supports Oracle 6.0, 7.0, and 7.1. It runs on SunOS, Solaris, HP/UX and IBM AIX and will be available in early Q3 1995. BMC Software of Houston, Texas, will be distributing SQL-BackTrack for Oracle.
