New Garden Encyclopedia from Books That Work Provides Better Ways to Maximize Gardening Success; Multimedia Gardening Tool Takes You Beyond What Books Can Do Using Powerful Search and Audio Capabilities

Business Wire, May 1, 1995

PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1995--Books That Work, a leading multimedia software publisher of home and garden titles, today announced the release of Garden Encyclopedia, a multimedia reference tool that takes the guesswork out of finding the right plants for your garden.

This fast and practical guide helps you select the right plants the first time. It describes the key attributes and qualities of more than 1,000 annuals, perennials, bulbs, vegetables, shrubs, vines, and groundcovers that are nursery-available, nationwide. Every plant in the database is detailed with a color photograph with its key attributes. Garden Encyclopedia is available on CD-ROM for Windows at home and garden centers, bookstores and retail computer software stores nationwide for around $30.

Whether you are a novice or an experienced gardener, you can organize searches to suit your preferences. For example, you can search by common or botanical plant names; important visual attributes, such as flower color, bloom season and height; or by local sun and soil conditions and hardiness zone. Once you've made your selections, Garden Encyclopedia lets you create, save, and print personal plant lists. Use them for shopping lists or garden inventories. To help you with the pronunciation of the more precise botanical names, the program contains audio clips of their pronunciation so you know how to say them before you visit the nursery.

Complementing the plant database, is a detailed How-to Guide offering instructions on selection, care, planting and propagation techniques in narrated video segments. There are more than two dozen lists of plants that share common characteristics such as "fragrant plants," "plants that attract hummingbirds" or "plants that thrive in heat." You'll also learn the least-toxic controls for the most common pests and diseases.

Garden Encyclopedia is a fast, practical reference tool that provides expert advice for selecting the right plants the first time. This is the fifteenth release in Books That Works' library of home and garden titles.

System Requirements

Garden Encyclopedia requires a CD-ROM drive, a 386 IBM PC or 100% compatible, 4MB RAM minimum; VGA monitor with 256 colors, and Windows 3.1.
