TIE communications sells Canadian caller ID business segment
Business Wire, May 1, 1995
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 1, 1995-- TIE/communications Inc., a leading supplier of telecommunications equipment, software and services, announced that its Canadian unit, TAI Telecommunications Accessories has completed the sale of its Caller ID business segment to CDT Canada Corp., Ontario, a wholly owned subsidiary of Colonial Data Technologies Corp. of New Milford, Conn.
TAI Telecommunications Accessories purchases, refurbishes and sells previously owned telephone equipment and peripherals. The unit also provides TIE's North American direct sales and service offices with a channel for all customer trade-ins of pre-owned telephone equipment of any manufacturer to the secondary market.
"This is an important strategic move because Caller ID is basically a retail business and this distribution channel is not consistent with the rest of TIE's product lines," said John Giordano, president of TAI Telecommunications Accessories. "This sale will allow us to focus on our higher margin core business lines of refurbished and previously owned equipment."
TIE/communications Inc. serves over 130,000 business customers in North America with sales and service of communications systems and related software and equipment.
The company operates 59 sales offices throughout the United States and Canada. TIE has an installed base of 11 million telephones, making it one the largest independent business communication companies in North America.
TIE is a member of The Marmon Group of companies, an international association of more than 60 autonomous service and manufacturing companies with annual sales in excess of $5.2 billion.
