Business Wire, May 16, 1995
TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 16, 1995--In a ceremony that included a presentation from Gov. Wilson's office and a proclamation from Torrance's mayor declaring ``EPSON Technology Day,'' Epson America Inc. received two prestigious awards from the country's technological community.
Awards received were InfoWorld's 1994 ``Product of the Year'' for the EPSON Stylus COLOR Ink Jet Printer, and Electronic Design News' (EDN) 1994 ``Innovation of the Year'' for EPSON's miniaturization technology, which has enabled development of CARDIO-486, a credit-card-sized computer motherboard.
``If you think Silicon Valley is the only place in California where hot new technologies are being developed and marketed, you would be wrong,'' said John Lang, EPSON's chief operating officer. ``We are honored to be the recipient of these awards and are pleased that EPSON's continued commitment to innovation and daring with regard to technological advances has been so universally recognized.''
The InfoWorld ``Product of the Year'' award honors products that have raised the bar in innovation and real-world usability. The EDN ``Innovation of the Year'' award distinguishes outstanding, innovative electronic products and technologies.
In honor of these accomplishments, Gov. Pete Wilson recognized Epson America by way of personal letter. Lynn Wright, deputy chief information officer, office of technology, represented the governor at the awards ceremony.
In recognition of EPSON's achievements, the city of Torrance officially declared May 16 ``EPSON Technology Day.'' Torrance Mayor Hardison was among the guests celebrating EPSON's achievements.
EPSON Stylus COLOR Ink Jet Printer
Utilizing piezoelectric ink-jet technology and specially coated paper, EPSON's midrange Stylus COLOR Ink Jet Printer produces images that are as clear and bright as more expensive color laser printers. The Stylus Color is the only ink-jet printer boasting a resolution of 720 x 720 dots per inch, print speeds of 200 characters per second (monochrome) and three pages per minute (color), and includes a two-year limited warranty.
EPSON CARDIO-486
EPSON's advanced miniaturization technology has enabled the company to produce unique systems and subsystems for a variety of computing products.
Most recently, the company developed CARDIO-486, a credit-card- sized motherboard that contains all the controllers, memory and I/O interfaces OEMs need to easily incorporate high-performance PC functionality into a wide range of innovative new systems, including point-of-sale (POS) terminals, portable and handheld equipment, medical equipment, VCRs, facsimile machines and factory-automation and navigation equipment.
