Business Wire, May 19, 1995

MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 19, 1995--FONAR Corporation (symbol FONR), a leading manufacturer and fee-for-service provider of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems used for medical detection, reported today that the jury has rendered a verdict in FONAR's favor against General Electric Company in both of the patents being asserted by FONAR in its patent infringement case against GE. The jury reached its verdict within several hours of Judge Wexler's submitting the case to the jury. The two patents are the world's first MRI patent (Apparatus and Method for Detecting Cancer in Tissue) and the Multi-Angle-Oblique(tm) MRI Patent.

Furthur proceedings to determine damages to be recovered by FONAR as a result of the infringement of its patents is expected to commence within a week. FONAR is seeking $300 million in damages from General Electric for infringement of the two patents.

FONAR is represented by Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Ciresi, the Minneapolis-based firm that successfully litigated Honeywell's auto-focus patent against Minolta. The FONAR suit was filed on September 2, 1992 in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of New York.
