Business Wire, May 3, 1995
HERNDON, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 3, 1995--InterCon Systems Corp., the leading supplier of TCP/IP and Internet access software for Macintosh and Windows systems, today announced a new partnership agreement with America Online. AOL will OEM InterCon's multiplatform WebShark software to provide WWW access for AOL's Macintosh members.
WebShark is part of InterCon's Shark family of complete Internet access software which includes NetShark(TM) a complete, easy-to-use suite of Internet access software developed for consumer and mainstream corporate users of Macintosh and Windows systems. WebShark, based on innovative FAST (Fully Asynchronous Scanning Technique) technology developed by InterCon Systems is the fastest Web browser on the market, offering significantly better performance levels than competitors. An easy-to-use, integrated, graphical user interface enables users to point and click to download files, view audio-video or listen to sound clips within the context of the program. AOL is currently beta testing the InterCon's WebShark browser for Mac and members will be able to download a Preview version of the software later this month for no additional charge.
"The Internet is going through a dramatic transition from the technical elite to the mass market," said Kurt Baumann, president and CEO at InterCon Systems Corp. "Providing the fastest, easy-to-use MAC Web browser to AOL's member community will certainly push the envelope on Internet usage."
"We searched the industry for the best technology and selected InterCon to provide our Apple Macintosh members with access to the Web," said David Cole; president of AOL's Internet Services Company. "By licensing WebShark for inclusion with AOL, we become the first of the major national online services to provide Macintosh users with World Wide Web access."
InterCon's Shark product family makes it easy for non-technical users to share multimedia messages, exchange files, work efficiently with network newsgroups, or to browse the Web. The combination of sophisticated features, modular design, and the industry's easiest to use interface defines WebShark and its companion products as preferred Internet access tools.
The product family is comprised of three packages: NetShark, a full-featured application with email, network news, Web browsing, gopher and FTP clients available for under $100; MailShark, an email only system; and WebShark. MailShark and WebShark users can be easily upgraded to the full NetShark application.
