Caere Announces OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si; New 20 User Pack of OmniPage Pro 6.0 Offers Accurate, Full-Featured OCR Processing Across the Network at a Highly Aggressive Price

LOS GATOS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 1995--Caere Corporation (NASDAQ:CAER), the leader in optical character recognition (OCR) and a leading provider of desktop document management and forms processing software, today announced OmniPage Pror for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si version 6.0, a 20-user OCR license of Caere's top-of-the-line OCR product for Windows.
The product is designed to offer users of the just-announced HP ScanJet 4Si network scanner a low cost upgrade from their existing OCR software, OmniPage Lite, to OmniPage Pro 6.0, the industry's best-selling OCR software featuring substantial accuracy improvements and other enhancements.
"OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si transforms the user's desktop into a powerful OCR processing center, saving users time and effort by eliminating the need to retype information," said Chad Kinzelberg, vice president of marketing for Caere. "More than just an OCR solution, OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si supports workgroup computing by allowing users to simultaneously OCR text and share the information across the network." OmniPage Pro for HP ScanJet 4Si makes it easy for entire workgroups to take advantage of scanning and OCR. The upgrade provides full-featured OCR capabililies and represents Caere's most cost effective OCR solution. The new product is priced at less than $75 per seat, compared to regular upgrade price of $129 (street).
OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si version 6.0 offers these significant enhancements over OmniPage Lite, the OCR software included in the HP ScanJet 4Si:
- Caere's newest OCR engine for increased accuracy;
- AutoOCR Toolbar that performs all the key steps of the OCR process automatically with a single mouse click;
- Superior accuracy on degraded documents such as photocopies and faxes;
- Text proofing for faster job completion; B7 True PageD6 technology that maintains the original format of the page including text and graphics to reduce the number of editing steps;
- Deferred/batch processing to delay recognition to a more convenient time;
- Advanced OCR settings panel for greater precision and accuracy; and others.
The OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si includes a 20-user license, 2 sets of manuals and a set of diskettes.
System Requirements
OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si version 6.0 requires a minimum of 12 MB free hard disk space, 8 MB RAM, a 386-based or higher PC, Windows 3.1 or above, DOS 5.0 or above, a Windows compatible pointing device, and a 3.5-inch high-density floppy disk drive. Image Assistant requires VGA or SVGA 256-color monitor.
Price and Availability
OmniPage Pro for Hewlett-Packard ScanJet 4Si version 6.0 and is expected to be available December 1, 1995 at major resellers and is expected at a street price of $1,495.
