Business Wire, Nov 14, 1995
SALEM, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1995--Duplexx Software announces NET TOOB(tm),the first universal full motion video player for the PC. NET TOOB delivers full motion, full color, full screen video with near-TV quality and interleaved stereo sound capability. The NET TOOB user interface resembles a standard VCR making it easy to operate. NET TOOB requires no additional hardware to play all standard video file formats including MPEG-1 (Motion Picture Experts Group), AVI (Video for Windows) and MOV (Quicktime for Windows).
Previously, users would need to purchase and install specialized MPEG hardware to take advantage of the smaller file sizes of MPEG video (MPEG files are typically 1/4 the size of other video formats.). NET TOOB plays MPEG files directly at frame rates of 7.5, 15 and 30 frames per second allowing different video files to trade off file size for playback quality.
"Until now, end users had to choose between downloading large AVI video files, purchasing special MPEG hardware for their PC, or viewing MPEG video without the accompanying sound track," said Peter Hackmeister, President and founder of Duplexx Software. "NET TOOB is a better solution because it removes all of these limitations and provides a single viewer for all video files."
NET TOOB requires a 486-based Windows PC running in 256 colors with 4 MB of RAM. It installs in minutes and its VCR-like interface makes it easy to learn. It has mouse-operated VCR controls and adds a screen size adjustment allowing the user to view images at 1/8, 1/4 and full screen sizes.
NET TOOB has a wide range of applications. It works as an Internet browser helper application. It is also effective for education, marketing and news/current events video applications because it plays the smaller MPEG files. With full-motion video becoming an important part of PC applications, the ability to have a single viewer that handles all standard formats simplifies video viewing for users. NET TOOB also has a screen saver capability that allows any video file to be used as a screen saver.
NET TOOB is available immediately. Free evaluation copies can be downloaded from http://www.duplexx.com/~duplexx or ftp://duplexx.com/pub/duplexx.The evaluation copy can be upgraded to a full working version for $14.95. The registration process is handled via telephone or e-mail
Duplexx also provides a video encoding and production service for content providers. The service can produce new or convert existing video files to the MPEG-1 file format at 30, 15, or 7.5 frames per second. Cost for the service is dependent upon application and content providers are encouraged to contact Duplexx Software for details.
Duplexx Software develops and markets NET TOOB the world's only software based universal full motion video player. Duplexx Software includes among its key industry technology partners CompCore Multimedia Inc., developers of MPEG multimedia software.
