NetManage Announces Industry's First Centralized Desktop Management Power Tools; Software Distribution, Monitoring and Analyzing Across The Intranet
Business Wire, Nov 14, 1995
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 14, 1995--NetManage, the leader in TCP/IP for Windows applications, released today a powerful set of desktop management applications that provides software distribution, remote backup, and domain management capabilities from one central location.
NEWTWatch, the company's Windows PC desktop package, is the only SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) based software that provides network administrators with every tool needed to administer, monitor and analyze PC workgroups. The powerful combination of NEWTWatch's OLE (Object Linking and Embedding) 2.0 support and highly-integrated application tool bar makes the package the easiest-to-use desktop management solution in the industry.
"Corporate network administrators have expanded from focusing on bridges, routers and hubs to the management of individual PC users running desktop applications," said Amatzia Ben Artzi, NetManage's vice president of Desktop Management Products and co-author of the WinSNMP standard. "PC workgroups are an integral part of the corporate LAN and require special attention to assure that the entire network is operating seamlessly. NEWTWatch now provides a robust set of capabilities using TCP/IP and SNMP enterprise protocols, and a complete set of tools for managing, monitoring and distributing PC applications."
Software Distribution, Monitoring and Analyzing Made Easy
NEWTWatch's new software distribution application makes it easy for PC LAN administrators to distribute applications such as NetManage's Chameleon Desktop or Microsoft's Office over the internal corporate network or "intranet." Administrators can plan software installation or upgrades in advance by designating nodes and setting the time for the software to be distributed. This provides administrators with maximum flexibility while still maintaining centralized control of all software updates. NEWTWatch is also tightly integrated with NetManage's Chameleon Desktop to allow individual PC users to distribute software using Chameleon's WebSurfer, hence providing web-base software distribution.
NEWTWatch's Domain Manager allows administrators to identify key nodes on the network and prioritize them by color, name or hierarchical order. Domain Manager's integrated application launch bar allows users to quickly access profile, filter, remote control and transfer applications.
NEWTWatch provides administrators with the ability to automatically archive and retrieve all iterative versions of data in designated PC domains to protect them from losing valuable data.
NEWTWatch provides administrators with "real time" monitoring of software activity using PC MIB to poll the data. It displays data graphically and lists an individual's log-in name, the application running and the time and duration of the given application. It can also determine if the user, department or workgroup is in violation of a software license seat limit.
Multiple applications can be tracked to save the administrator time in pinpointing hot spots. Additionally, the data can be archived for future analysis. By launching the product's Grapher application, administrators can monitor activity from any network device such as a bridge or router. NEWTWatch also features a software-only TCP/IP packet trace and analysis application, Packet Analyzer, that allows users to capture, view and analyze all inbound and outbound TCP/IP traffic on a Windows PC.
NEWTWatch can be used with any PC MIB II compliant SNMP agent running in a Windows, Windows NT, Windows 95 or Macintosh software environment.
Pricing and Availability
NEWTWatch 4.6 is available immediately for $495.00 per single user. Existing NEWTWatch customers can upgrade to version 4.6 for $95.00 per copy. Chameleon Desktop 4.6 is priced at $400.00 per single copy and provides NEWTWatch users with a suite of TCP/IP applications including the WebSurfer browser.
