DEVELOPMENT AGREEMENT BETWEEN CA AND NETHERLANDS LAND REGISTRY; Spatial Data Processing With CA-OpenIngres

Business Wire, Nov 2, 1995

NIEUWEGEIN-APELDOORN, Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 2, 1995-- Computer Associates International, Inc. today announced that the Land Registry of the Netherlands has signed a contract under which the Land Registry will become a test site for spatial data processing using the newest release of the CA-OpenIngres multi-platform relational DBMS. The contract was signed at the head offices of the Land Registry in Apeldoorn by Predrag Dizdarevic, CA senior vice president of research and development and Jannes Lahus, member of the Land Registry board of directors.

With the new release of CA-OpenIngres, the Land Registry will be able to achieve integrated storage of its administrative and geometrical data. The Land Registry wants to improve its data quality and increase its flexibility in producing or adapting data to meet the requirements of its clients.

Computer Associates approached the Land Registry with the request to become a test site because of the experience the Land Registry has with the collation of very high volumes of spatial data. The Land Registry has already carried out successful trials on CA-OpenIngres 1.1 with Object Management Extension (OME) and its Spatial Object Library (SOL).

With the Land Registry's help, Computer Associates will be the first large supplier of a relational database suitable to serve as the basis for a Geographical Information System (GIS).

The Land Registry began its new existence as an independent administrative body providing services for the public registers on May 1, 1994. The Land Registry was a part of the State government for more than 160 years. The Land Registry promotes legal security for real estate transactions, shipping and aircraft. Some of its core tasks are the collection, acceptance, revision and administration of real estate data and providing information on this, partnership in the zoning of land and the preservation of so-called coordination points, the state's triangulation measurements. In addition to its group headquarters in Apeldoorn, the Land Registry has 15 branches throughout the Dutch provinces and employs a total of close to 2200 staff. Its annual turnover is 500 million guilders.
