Business Wire, Nov 21, 1995

IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 1995--Taking the Irvine community to the next level in interactive entertainment, Sega Enterprises Inc. (USA) Wednesday will open a high-tech entertainment center at the Entertainment Center at Irvine Spectrum in Irvine.

The center, named Sega City, will feature the latest in Sega's cutting-edge interactive amusement technology.

The focus of these new entertainment centers is to enhance the overall experience of high-tech entertainment by featuring exciting new interactive technologies and innovative themes and design.

Unlike riders of attractions at existing theme parks, visitors to Sega's attractions will be active participants, creating unique experiences with every visit. Interactive, high-tech attractions will feature virtual reality attractions, motion simulators, special-feature interactive rides, and the latest amusement and simulation games.

Some specific attractions featured at Sega City in Irvine include an eight-player Indy Formula racer and eight-player Daytona Special where players compete head-to-head on giant monitors, racing to the finish line on either the Indy or Daytona tracks. Also featured is the R-360, a flight simulator in a closed environment that rolls in 360 degrees at the player's control.

"We're taking our 40 years experience in interactive amusement hardware technologies, 3-D computer graphics and amusement game design to a new level to bring bright, family-oriented venues to the U.S. for a whole new look and feel in location-based entertainment," said Al Stone, president of Sega Enterprises Inc. (USA).

"With Irvine's rapidly growing family community and a premier center for research, technology and business, Irvine represents everything we are looking for in a community," Stone stated.

The Entertainment Center also houses the world's largest theater complex with 21 screens and more than 6,000 seats, crowned by an IMAX-3D Theater.
