Frontier Technologies Signs Broad Technology License Agreement with Verity; Frontier Integrates Topic Agent Technology Into Internet Server and Client Software
Business Wire, Nov 28, 1995
BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 28, 1995--Frontier Technologies Corporation, an industry leader in Internet technology, and Verity, Inc., a provider of search and retrieval applications for the enterprise and the Internet, announced today at E-mail World in Boston, that the two companies have signed a broad ranging licensing agreement to integrate Verity's Topic search technology into Frontier's client and server products.
The first product planned is a new version of Frontier's SuperWeb Server for Windows NT that integrates the Topic search engine and provides users with personalized network access tools -- tools that not only find information, but let users know if that information is relevant to their needs and preferences.
"With the massive amount of information available on the Internet, simple access is increasingly less valuable. Users not only need help finding the right information source, they also need knowledge about the information contained in that source," said Dr. Prakash Ambegaonkar, chief executive officer at Frontier. "Verity's Topic technology provides users with the personalized searching and filtering they need."
"Frontier is the first Web access provider to recognize the power of content-relevant searching," said Philippe Courtot, president and CEO of Verity. "We are extremely pleased to contribute to their efforts in creating content-conscious access to the Internet."
Frontier also plans to integrate Topic technology with its client products, such as SuperHighway Access CyberSearch. CyberSearch is a CD-ROM product that integrates a huge database of Internet resources with a high-performance Internet browser, allowing users to search for Internet information before they actually connect to the Internet.
