Planet Polymer Technologies introduces environmentally friendly polymer, soluble in both hot and cold water

Business Wire, Nov 29, 1995

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 1995--Planet Polymer Technologies Inc. (NASDAQ:POLY) Wednesday announced the introduction of Aquadro, a new EnviroPlastic Polyvinyl Alcohol resin (PVOH) that dissolves in both hot and cold water.

As an extension of Planet Polymer's existing product line of EnviroPlastic-H watersoluble resins, Aquadro is suitable for thermoplastic film fabrication.

According to Robert Petcavich, president and chief executive officer of Planet Polymer: "Aquadro will be targeted primarily for the medical disposable market, which in the U.S. alone, is estimated to be $1.75 billion and growing by 4 percent annually. Aquadro is ideally suited for disposable medical products such as surgical drapes, surgical apparel, fluid collection bags and instrument covers.

"Production trials are pending with three of the largest polymer film manufacturers in the U.S. and Planet Polymer now has a contract pending with a major medical products supplier for national distribution of end products."

Added Petcavich, "We believe that Aquadro products could be in commercial distribution by mid-1996."

Compared with competing products currently on the market, Aquadro offers customers significantly improved performance properties at lower costs.

It can be manufactured into blown film, unlike many competing materials that go into more expensive water solution cast film. Because blown film has a two-dimensional orientation, it has exceptionally good mechanical properties and can be used on existing blown-film machines that already process polyethylene or polypropylene.

Finally, products manufacturing with Aquadro do not require special equipment for disposal.

Planet Polymer Technologies is a chemical company specializing in proprietary, environmentally compatible water soluble, compostable, photodegradable resins, and recycled-content materials, all sold under the EnviroPlastic name. Planet Polymer also offers custom engineering and contract services.
