Unisys Powers Up Line of PC Desktops, Servers, and Notebooks; New Pentium Notebook and Mini-Tower Debut; Servers Enhanced and Ship with Quad 133 MHz Pentium Processors and PCI Bus

SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 6, 1995--Unisys Corp. today announced new models of its Pentium processor-based PW2 Advantage Series desktops, notebooks, and servers including the new CMT mini-tower, which can be utilized as a high-end desktop or entry-level server. Also included are the SFE and SME multiprocessor full-tower servers featuring enhanced PCI bus architecture, a new RAID disk design and a RAID option for servers. All take advantage of enhancements to Pentium processor technology from Intel.

PW2 Travel Partner Pro: the Pentium Notebook

The PW2 Travel Partner Pro offers users remarkable flexibility through an innovative modular design that permits a wide variety of configuration choices from an ultra light notebook to a high capacity multimedia system. The PW2 Travel Partner Pro features infra-red connectivity, a PCI bus architecture, a cached Pentium processor, two PCMCIA card slots, standard sound card with stereo speakers and up to 40 MB of RAM.

New Model CMT Mini-Tower

The CMT mini-tower has been designed to provide optimum desktop computing. It is housed in a seven bay mini-tower chassis and features a uni-processor system based on the Pentium processor and supporting a PCI bus architecture. The CMT offers EDO memory and has a 192 MB memory capacity. The system, which conforms to the industry Plug and Play standard, also features four PCI and three ISA slots (one shared), a 64-bit PCI graphics accelerator, and is Windows 95 certified.

Newly Enhanced Servers

Unisys enhancements have been designed to offer customers room to grow and remain state-of-the-art for years to come. Areas that have been enhanced include processor upgrades to 133 MHz and new RAID options, and are available on the Unisys SFR rackmount, and the SFE, SME, SSE and SVD servers. The new RAID option for all Unisys tower servers features six hot swappable fast-and-wide SCSI hard drives with a 24 GB maximum capacity or an external RAID subsystem with up to 21 hot swappable fast-and-wide SCSI disk drives and a maximum capacity of 84 GB.

Hysinger sums up, "Business demands are constantly in flux, constantly changing and expanding. To keep up with those demands, Unisys PCD must provide the broadest range of products possible and ensure they remain state-of-the-art. These new products are proof statements we're doing that."

Pricing and Availability

Approximate retail pricing is as follows: The PW2 Travel Partner Pro Pentium notebooks are priced from U.S. $3,150 to $4,200 and are available now. The CMT mini-tower desktop/deskside workstations are priced from U.S. $1,600 up to $4,000 and are available now. SVD dual processor servers with a single CPU cost from U.S. $3,400 to $5,100. The full tower servers start at U.S. $6,100 for the Model SSE with a single Pentium processor (maximum of two CPUs) up to U.S. $17,000 for a single processor SFE fault-resilient server (maximum of four CPUs). All servers are available now.
