Attachmate's IRMA TCP Suite, v3.1, Offers Single-Button Click to Navigate to any Host, TCP/IP or Internet Application; Also Includes Internet Collaborative Software Technology and IRMA/X for Windows Option

Business Wire, Nov 8, 1995

SEATTLE--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 8, 1995--Attachmate(R) Corp., the leading provider of PC connectivity software, today announced version 3.1 of its IRMA(tm) TCP Suite for Windows(R), the complete TCP/IP connectivity solution designed to meet the needs of business, including users on the Internet.

More than an upgrade, the new version allows access to data on the public Internet, the TCP/IP enterprise network, and also supports Internet collaborative conferencing using Attachmate's award-winning OpenMind(R) technology.

IRMA TCP Suite's collaborative technology provides a platform to implement on-line Internet conferencing, Web publishing, Web document management, and convenient and easy World Wide Web access.

"With this new version, we're providing not just a transport but a complete suite of applications that enable users to truly exploit their TCP/IP WAN and Internet resources," said Dick De Soto, director of product marketing for Attachmate's TCP/IP and Internet products.

"With this set of integrated applications, IRMA TCP Suite allows users to easily navigate, communicate and conduct their business with ease and convenience on the Internet and major legacy systems. With the suite's on-line collaborative features, customers can integrate the Internet with a corporation's internal information capabilities."

The suite of applications in IRMA TCP Suite v3.1 are fully integrated, so the user does not need to exit one application to access another. A simple mouse click launches any application, streamlining the user's access to information.

New in Version 3.1

------------------

Version 3.1 includes a number of added features that customers

requested:

Flexible, Easy LAN Server or Desktop Installation -- Installation of the product is quick and easy. System administrators can load the software onto a network server, and users can download selected configurations to their own desktops -- or individual desktop installations may be selected by the enterprise. The central LAN server installation provides maximum enterprise control.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) Support -- Automatically retrieves TCP/IP access parameters such as IP, boot server and default gateway addresses, without tying up administrative resources.

Mainframe Graphics -- Enables graphic displays from host sessions.

QuickGUI -- With a mouse click, converts a standard character-based screen to a Visual Basic(R)-type user interface, automatically making host applications screens appear very user-friendly.

Network Monitor -- A package of reporting and diagnostic tools for TCP/IP networks.

Netscape Navigator(tm), v1.2 -- The latest version of the No. 1 World-Wide Web browser, containing the most up-to-date SSL security features and Windows 95 support.

Integrated Collaborative Client -- Attachmate's OpenMind technology client provides a platform for on-line Internet conferencing, Web publishing, Web document management, e-Mail gateway and Web access.

QuickApp(R) and QuickPeer(tm) Support Across All Platforms -- Expanded support for client/server application development includes these development tools for creating new client screens, communication routines, etc. on all major legacy platforms.

Optional IRMA/X for Windows, v1.1

---------------------------------

Attachmate also today announced version 1.1 of its IRMA/X for Windows connectivity software for the PC X server market. Designed specifically as a 32-bit application for the Windows 95 and Windows NT(tm) environments, it is also available for the Windows 3.x desktop. IRMA/X is a natural extension of Attachmate's "from anywhere, to anywhere" connectivity solutions to X-based applications.

IRMA/X for Windows is offered as an option for the IRMA TCP

Suite. Key features include:

Multi-instance support to run multiple configurations

simultaneously

Multi-visual mode, allowing each X application to use its own

color map

Full range of color support from 16 through 16 million colors

Application Manager, allowing launch of an X client application

from Windows Program Manager icons as well as from the

IRMA/X server menu

Font aliasing, allowing users to rename long font style names

with generic names

Microsoft(R) Windows font support

Graphical keymapping

Easy, Convenient Internet Access

--------------------------------

IRMA TCP Suite v3.1 provides private and public access in a single client. Using a single GUI, users can access public Internet information resources as well as host applications on private TCP/IP corporate networks. Such convenience reduces overall operating costs while increasing user efficiency.

The product also features e-mail, news readers and an FTP (File Transfer Protocol) client/server for transferring files to and from PCs.

Other Key Features

------------------

IRMA TCP Suite v3.1 provides seamless TCP/IP access across the enterprise. It gives direct access to IBM(R) mainframe and AS/400(R) systems, as well as DEC(R) and UNIX hosts.

The product includes a DLL-based Winsock-compliant TCP/IP stack, which maximizes system resources by relinquishing memory when not in use. If the user already has a Winsock-compliant TCP/IP stack, IRMA TCP Suite supports that as well.
