Unilever selects Tivoli Systems Inc. as systems management standard for worldwide operations
Business Wire, Nov 9, 1995
AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 9, 1995--Tivoli Systems Inc. today announced that Unilever, the leading manufacturer of consumer products, is using the Tivoli Management Environment (TME) as the core of its global enterprise systems management solution.
Unilever, which has international interests, has adopted Tivoli's systems management solution as part of its core enterprise technology strategy to manage their open systems client/server environment. Unilever entered the global agreement with Tivoli following the successful completion of a 12-month trial that involved the installation of TME at seven of Unilever's operating companies.
The contract includes four Tivoli management applications. Tivoli/Enterprise Console will provide centralized applications management through an integrated global view of Unilever's entire enterprise. Tivoli/Courier will manage the distribution and updating of software between servers and PCs. Tivoli/Admin will manage system configuration, as well as account and user administration, and Tivoli/Print will manage print queues across the network.
"We have identified the area of systems management as one of the key factors in the successful deployment of client/server computing," said Dr. Martin Armitage, head of technology for Unilever's Information Technology Group. "Tivoli addresses these concerns by providing an integrated tool that enables us to effectively manage this environment. Our original goal was to avoid escalating systems management costs as we increased the number of sites and systems to be managed. It became clear during the pilot installation at seven of our companies that TME will help us improve the speed and quality of implementing these new technologies."
"Systems management efficiency is absolutely critical for a truly distributed operation that spans as many locations as Unilever," said Frank Moss, president and chief executive officer of Tivoli Systems. "TME is helping Unilever run its business in the way that will best serve its customers without having to worry about whether the supporting information systems can be cost effectively managed. That's the way it should be."
The Tivoli Management Environment
The Tivoli Management Environment provides a comprehensive set of systems management applications that reduce the cost and mask the complexity of managing widely dispersed UNIX and PC clients and servers. TME provides key client/server systems management applications addressing automated deployment, distributed availability and user management functions such as software distribution, client and server configuration management and event monitoring and correlation. The Tivoli Management Framework provides an architectural foundation within the TME on which to build and run highly integrated and easy-to-use systems management applications and has been widely accepted as an industry standard.
