Wang Federal Awarded Multi-Million Dollar Contract from EDS to Provide Imaging and Workflow Software; Wang will work with EDS on the enterprise-wide U.S. Department of Defense, Defense Finance and Accounting Service Corporate Imaging Solution Program
Business Wire, Oct 12, 1995
BILLERICA, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 12, 1995--Wang (NASDAQ:WANG) announced today that Electronic Data Systems (EDS), has awarded the company an IDIQ (Indefinite Delivery/Indefinite Quantity) contract with a potential value of approximately $10 million over four years.
Under the agreement, Wang will provide imaging and workflow software as a subcontractor to EDS for the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) Corporate Imaging Solution Program.
DFAS is responsible for standardizing Department of Defense finance and accounting policies, procedures, systems, and operations, and EDS is the prime contractor responsible for the design, acquisition, development, and deployment of the enterprise-wide DFAS Corporate Imaging Solution.
Wang imaging and workflow software will be used to automate existing paper-based pay processing and related accounting activities for U.S. military operations worldwide. DFAS has offices throughout the United States, employs approximately 25,000 people, and handles more than 10 million documents per month. To achieve an increase in productivity and efficiency while reducing overall operating expenses, DFAS will consolidate approximately 300 Defense Accounting Operations/Defense Accounting Activities into five existing DFAS centers and 21 new Operating Locations.
Additionally, Wang will provide support personnel to work as part of the EDS project team at the Camp Hill, Pennsylvania Program Office.
Wang's partners, Kodak and Recognition Research, Inc., will provide various components of the document capture subsystem. Kodak's Commercial & Government Systems Division will provide image capture technology. Recognition Research, Inc. will provide Optical Character Recognition (OCR) forms processing, and data correction technology. Products from both companies will be integrated with Wang's imaging and workflow software.
"Wang had the best suite of imaging and workflow technology that met the requirements for the DFAS document management environment," said Robert Blecher, program manager for EDS. "Wang's software provides a robust set of development tools to support application development and integration."
We were also impressed with the document capture and forms processing technology that was integrated with Wangs OPEN/image and OPEN/workflow products," added Blecher. "We felt that Wang went beyond our expectations in conducting their live test demonstration, and we were very pleased with the responsiveness of the entire Wang/Kodak/RRI team."
"We are proud that EDS has selected Wang's OPEN/image and OPEN/workflow software for the DFAS solution," said Ronald E. Cuneo, president of Wang Federal. "We are committed to supporting EDS in the successful implementation of the DFAS program and are confident that our technology will result in dramatic productivity improvements in the DFAS operation."
