Tandem's ServerNet technology provides link to agreement with Compaq; companies will jointly promote the ServerNet architecture as an industry standard
Business Wire, Oct 16, 1995
HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 1995--James Treybig, president and CEO of Tandem Computers Incorporated, announced today that Tandem's ServerNet technology is the foundation for a strategic agreement with Compaq Computer Corporation to deliver revolutionary levels of scalability and reliability to the application server marketplace in a Microsoft Windows NT environment.
"Our new ServerNet technology and computer architecture fills an industry need. And that is to enable the delivery of huge amounts of digitized data, including multimedia, at very high speeds. It is the only clustering interconnect to provide this high-speed as well as cost-effective scalability to simplify growth, and fault tolerance to maintain data integrity," said Treybig.
As part of the strategic agreement with Compaq, it was also announced today that Tandem and Compaq will promote the Tandem ServerNet architecture as a Windows NT industry standard to exchange data between servers.
"In July, when we announced ServerNet, our intent was to build strategic relationships and gain momentum to make ServerNet technology an industry standard," said Treybig. "This agreement with Compaq is another step toward meeting that goal."
Technology licensing agreements and OEM contracts for components such as ServerNet technology represent a significant new market for Tandem. The ServerNet architecture has been designed from the outset as a low-cost, open technology that can be leveraged not only by Tandem, but also by commodity, high-volume market suppliers such as Compaq.
Treybig made his remarks this morning during a press conference hosted by Compaq at Innovate Forum 95, a worldwide conference for Compaq customers, resellers and partners.
Tandem Computers Incorporated (NYSE:TDM), has built a reputation as the leader in highly reliable, parallel processing, client/server solutions and enterprise networks. Founded in 1974 and headquartered in Cupertino, Calif., Tandem reported 1994 worldwide sales of $2.1 billion. -0-
