EPSON debuts new point-of-sale displays and packaging design
Business Wire, Oct 17, 1995
TORRANCE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 17, 1995--EPSON Tuesday announced a breakthrough design in point-of-sale (POS) displays and packaging for its newest family of ink jet printers.
The permanent freestanding POS devices provide durable, interchangeable and removable pieces to allow retailers to customize their displays to best fit their shelf space and store promotions. The packaging brings a fresh, bright new image to the computer industry by using bold, colorful designs.
"Packaging is the silent salesperson," said Marti Umphrey, EPSON's director of merchandising. "We've made this POS display and packaging as effective as possible to get consumers' attention and to present a consistent brand identification."

POS DISPLAY
The most innovative feature of these displays is interchangeability. Far from being static, retailers are now able to slide information strips, sale bursts, and rebate information across the top of the display to reflect current sales promotions in their stores.
Also, background "photo quality" images, tear pads and advertising can be slid in the stand and varied by a store manager at any time.
Dimensions of the durable plastic units are 17-1/2" high by 18" wide, and fit on most regular shelves. Designed for EPSON's scanners and Stylus Color II and Iis printers, the displays provide retailers with a consistent look to their shelf design and up-to-date information on in-store promotions.
PACKAGING
EPSON's new box design is a departure from the staid computer industry. Using vibrant primary colors, the packaging emphasizes the "photo quality" output achieved by its printers. A customer- friendly layout of distinct graphics and bulleted, straightforward text continues EPSON's goal to inform, educate and influence the purchase decision.
This packaging uses a dynamic layout that, when stacked, can be used as an excellent end-aisle display. Coordinating consumables boxes complete the look and feel of the packaging.
These POS displays and new boxes are currently on shelves at Sears, Computer City, CompUSA, Circuit City and other retailers. They will also be available in Canada, Latin America and South America.
EPSON offers an extensive array of technology products including ink jet, laser and dot matrix printers, scanners, portable and desktop computers and, for the OEM market, a variety of component and electronic devices.
