Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. Purchases Alabama Aggregates Operation

RALEIGH, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 19, 1995--Martin Marietta Materials, Inc. (NYSE:MLM) today announced that it has purchased an aggregates operation from Lambert Sand & Gravel located near Montgomery, Alabama. The facility produces sand and gravel used in asphalt and concrete, and metallurgical gravel used by certain metal producers. The operation has a capacity of approximately 1.2 million tons per year. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
Martin Marietta Materials' President and Chief Executive Officer, Stephen P. Zelnak, Jr., stated that the purchase continues Martin Marietta Materials' expansion strategy in Alabama and Georgia, including sand shipments to the metropolitan Atlanta area. The newly acquired facility offers significant growth potential in these areas.
Martin Marietta Materials is the nation's second largest producer of construction aggregates and a leading producer of magnesia-based chemical and refractory products used in a wide variety of industries.
