COMPUTER ASSOCIATES SHIPS CA-SUPERPROJECT 4.0 FOR WINDOWS; ODBC Support Allows Importing And Exporting From Database Of Choice
Business Wire, Oct 2, 1995
ISLANDIA, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 2, 1995--Computer Associates is shipping CA-SuperProject 4.0 for Windows, its highly successful project management software whose 16,000-task capacity makes it ideal for large projects or multi-project consolidations.
Available across five platforms -- Windows, OS/2, DOS, Solaris, and VAX/VMS -- CA-SuperProject 4.0's enhanced ODBC support permits users to export and import data to and from any database, allowing external programs to report on and update project information. Multiple project data can be exported to a single relational database.
"This release is dramatically easier to use, while even stronger in management reporting and multi-project capabilities," said Dan Streib, CA-SuperProject analyst. "Our strategy is to provide a single product that is both easy enough for occasional users, yet fully featured for professional project managers."
CA-SuperProject 4.0 for Windows includes a refined user interface, enhanced views and charts, added calculation options and fields, strengthened multi-project management, enhanced reporting, and broadened connectivity -- making it ideal for program and project enterprise management in multi-platform environments.
Key Enhancements
o Ease of Use -- bubble help, multi-level undo, enhanced mouse support, configurable tool bar, spell checker, pop-up forms, unique tab system for changing projects and layouts, forms for easy updating of progress, and overall interface improvements make CA-SuperProject more user friendly.
o Expanded Support -- ODBC support allows external programs to update project data. Projects can also be opened or saved using the Microsoft MPX format. OLE 2.0 support lets users take advantage of OLE automation, OLE imbedding to tasks, resources and assignments, and graphic display of OLE objects on Gantt and PERT charts.
o Multi-Project Management -- the "Window Combine" option brings all open projects together in a single Task Outline, PERT Chart, and WBS Chart for display, editing, roll-up and reporting, while retaining them as distinct projects. A simple mouse drag can schedule tasks in one project to handoff the start of tasks and other projects. Resource pool projects and group resource calendars improve the sharing of resources.
o Accelerated Learning -- an improved interactive tutorial and Project Manager's Assistant guide users through all major procedures using live data.
o Effective Communication -- includes a free-form report writer, incremental size zooming and print-to-fit capability. A new organization chart diagrams relationships among project resources. Gantt charts are more configurable and support embedded graphics. Interactive calendars can be customized by users, with mouse-interactive task bars, tabs for moving between calendars, and highlighting abilities to reveal the status of each calendar day.
o TimeSheet Bundle -- TimeSheet Professional 3.0 for Windows from Timeslips Corporation, a time and expense tracking program valued at $199 is seamlessly integrated with CA-SuperProject 4.0.
CA-SuperProject 4.0 supports multiple baselines for what-if and interim comparisons, new and longer fields, and a system to capture periodic progress data and control its posting to the project.
