Ericsson receives $88 million expansion order from Vodafone Australia

STOCKHOLM, Sweden--Oct. 20, 1995--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Ericsson has received an expansion order from Vodafone Australia for supply and installation of switching and base station equipment to support the continued expansion of the Vodafone GSM digital cellular network in Australia. The estimated value of the new order is approx $88 million. Deliveries will begin in 1996.
Ericsson was selected as a supplier to Vodafone Australia in 1993. Through this latest order, the total value of the orders from Vodafone has increased to over $295 million.
Vodafone's orders have had a significant impact on Ericsson Australia's manufacturing and R&D activities. Added manufacturing capacity in the cellular area has made Ericsson Australia one of the largest manufacturing centers of telecom equipment in Asia-Pacific. Ericsson Australia is now exporting cellular equipment to Asia as well as supporting Asian markets with repair and maintenance services.
Among others, Ericsson Australia supplies Vodafone Fiji Limited with GSM digital equipment for the growing cellular network in Fiji. Ericsson is currently sharing cellular R&D activities with universities in Australia with advanced technology centers. These include Sydney University of Technology, Wollongong University and Victoria University of Technology.
