Rational announces software- engineering tools for seamless mixed-language development with ADA, C, and C++
Business Wire, Oct 23, 1995
Software Corporation announced today Rational Apex Duo, a software-engineering environment that supports mixed-language development with Ada, C, and C , and VADScross C/C , a cross-compilation system for embedded C and C programs that are part of an Ada application.
Rational Apex is an integrated, interactive, software- engineering environment for controlling the development of complex software systems. Rational Apex Duo, combined with the VADScross C/C compilers, makes it easier for organizations to use the Ada programming language on a wider range of software projects.
"Most large Ada projects include some code written in other languages, especially C or C ," said Kevin Nix, director of marketing at Rational. "Rational Apex Duo and VADScross C/C help fulfill the open-systems promise of Ada, where interoperability between languages can be critical to the success of a project. Rational Apex Duo and VADScross C/C enable developers to seamlessly develop complex applications using any combination of Ada 83, Ada 95, C, and C ."
Rational Apex Duo provides common editing/browsing, compilation, execution support, debugging, architectural enforcement, and configuration management and version control for each of these languages.
Rational's VADScross C/C cross-compilers provide a mixed-language solution for embedded-systems development. VADScross C/C provides common memory management, I/O, interrupt handling, program initialization, data layout, and debugging. VADScross is available for most UNIX-based host systems and embedded targets.
Rational Apex Duo is part of an integrated solution for total lifecycle control of development projects. It works in conjunction with Rational's entire line of development products, including Objectory for business engineering, Rational Rose for analysis, design, and implementation, SoDA for automated documentation generation, and TestMate for automated testing and coverage analysis.
Pricing and Availability
Rational Apex Duo will be available in November 1995 for Digital Alpha AXP, Sun SPARC, and Hewlett-Packard 9000 workstations. It will be available in December 1995 for IBM RS/6000 workstations. Rational Apex Duo will sell for $26,000 (U.S. price). VADScross C/C is available today on the same platforms for $5,000 (U.S. price).
