Business Objects announces support for Sybase System 11; Business Objects' industry leading query and reporting tool leverages System 11 scalability and performance
Business Wire, Oct 30, 1995
CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 30, 1995--Business Objects, a leading provider of client/server decision support systems (DSS), today announced support for Sybase System 11, Sybase's new family of database products optimized for enterprise-wide computing.
BusinessObjects(TM) is an industry-leading query and reporting solution that provides end users with an intuitive, business representation of information stored in corporate databases and data warehouses.
System 11 offers a single architecture that optimizes performance and scalability for on-line transaction processing (OLTP) and data warehousing applications. This is important to joint Business Objects and Sybase customers. Mutual customers include Advocate Healthcare Systems, Battelle Labs, Coastal Corporation, Fidelity Investments, Hughes Space and Communications (a Hughes Aircraft Company), and National Semiconductor. Sybase, also a Business Objects customer, uses the decision support solution internally.
Business Objects has long been a member of the Sybase Open Solutions Partner Program and is working on product integration and technical certification between the Sybase Warehouse WORKS framework and BusinessObjects. In particular, Business Objects is working closely with Sybase on integration with Sybase IQ, an extension of Sybase SQL Server that is designed to provide fast responses to ad hoc queries, which are common among data warehouse users.
In addition, through the Mercury project (see news release dated Sept. 25, 1995), Business Objects will enable on-line analytical processing functions such as "slice and dice" and "drill down" on relational databases, including Sybase. Mercury is scheduled for production in 1Q 96.
"Sybase is an important partner for Business Objects, particularly in the area of data warehousing," said David Kellogg, vice president of worldwide product marketing at Business Objects. "Our mutual customers will now be able to take advantage of the optimized performance of System 11, along with Business Objects' industry-leading query and reporting tools. We look forward to a continued relationship with Sybase as our customers continue to deploy enterprise-wide decision support solutions."
"Many of our customers use BusinessObjects as their query and reporting tool," said Tom Herring, vice president of corporate marketing at Sybase. "Business Objects is an important partner for us, and we are pleased that System 11 will bring so many benefits to our mutual customers. The combination of System 11 and BusinessObjects delivers an industry-leading decision support solution that is optimized for enterprise-wide computing."
BusinessObjects will be available on System 11 within 90 days of System 11 general availability.
