FISERV and Criterion partner to deliver InformEnt data warehouse to the healthcare industry; ambulatory decision support system to utilize information repository and data management capabilities

Business Wire, Oct 31, 1995

PITTSBURGH--(BUSINESS WIRE)--October 31, 1995--FISERV, INC. and Criterion Health Strategies, Inc. announced today that they have entered into an agreement for Criterion to use the Fiserv InformEnt(TM) data warehouse solution as the information repository and data management tool set for its COPPS ambulatory decision support system.

"To prosper in today's managed patient care environment, healthcare providers need to enhance the quality of service they deliver while simultaneously reducing healthcare costs," said Brent Teveit, Criterion Health Strategies President. "They can succeed by closely monitoring and carefully adjusting care delivery protocols, standards and guidelines. Armed with comprehensive analysis provided by our COPPS Console, integrated with the Fiserv InformEnt data warehouse system, healthcare providers will be able to target service quality improvements and cost reduction opportunities much faster and with greater confidence than was possible when manually sifting through financial, operational and detailed clinical data," he continued.

The InformEnt solution collects data dispersed throughout an organization, integrates and transforms the data into enterprise intelligence, and makes it available for analysis through a single Oracle data warehouse running on a UNIX or NT server.

Although initially developed specifically for the financial industry, Fiserv quickly realized that the InformEnt business data model would benefit any organization seeking comprehensive information analysis to improve product and service delivery while reducing operating expense.

The COPPS system utilizes the data which resides in the data warehouse to provide detailed measurement and analysis of ambulatory patient information to better manage the cost-effective delivery of care and increase patient satisfaction. Criterion's measurement, analysis and decision support tools will use the practice management, managed care contract, patient health, patient care and financial information that is collected and managed by the InformEnt system.

Criterion chose the InformEnt system because it is one of the few data warehouse solutions already implemented, operating and benefiting users today. "The ability to accelerate the delivery of our decision support product by integrating a proven data warehouse solution that is already collecting, transforming and retrieving enterprise intelligence, convinced us to strike a deal with Fiserv," added Teveit.

Under the agreement, Criterion will market the InformEnt system to the healthcare industry worldwide.

"It's exciting to see the InformEnt solution, which is already demonstrating its value in the financial marketplace, begin to penetrate new markets," said Paul Jameson, Senior Vice President of the Fiserv Pittsburgh-based center. "The InformEnt system's applicability to the healthcare industry demonstrates its versatility and comprehensive scope," he continued. "We're confident that the combination of the InformEnt system and Criterion's healthcare expertise and advanced approach to the delivery of healthcare decision support systems will create an unbeatable business solution for the healthcare industry."
