Focus Enhancements, Inc. announces introduction of Etherlan Hub 16 RM & 32 RM; High-quality, Standalone Repeater Hubs for Macs, PCs, and Workstations are an Excellent Price Performance Value

Business Wire, Oct 5, 1995

WOBURN, Mass.--Oct. 5, 1995--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FOCUS Enhancements, Inc. (NASDAQ: FCSE, FCSEW) (BSE: FCS, FCSW) announced today the introduction of EtherLAN Hub 16 RM & 32 RM - repeater hubs that each feature one thinnet and AUI connector, plus sixteen (Hub 16RM) and thirty-two (Hub 32 RM) 10BaseT ports for use in 10BaseT Ethernet networks, or in mixed thin, thick, and 10BaseT networks.

For a suggested retail price of $419.00, the Hub 16 RM provides sixteen 10BaseT ports for UTP connectivity with PCs, Macs, Unix workstations and more. The Hub 32 RM, suggested retail price of $699.99, features thirty-two 10BaseT ports. Each 10BaseT port on either model can support one network node or another hub, and Standard Category 3 or 5 twisted pair cable can be used for connection to the 10BaseT ports. In addition, both models provide BNC connection to thinnet, enabling up to 30 devices (hubs or PCs, Macs & workstations) to be connected via standard coaxial cable and T-connectors. Both the Hub 16 RM and 32 RM can also serve as a node on any thinnet backbone or segment.

The Hub 16 RM and 32 RM feature auto partitioning and re-connection, allowing for removal of a port under excessive collision, and reinstatement of the port once it is clear. Moreover, since management software is not required to support this feature, a network manager merely needs to connect the hub and it essentially manages itself. Both models also include two status LEDs per port that visually inform a network manager about the link and partitioning status of each individual port.

Both the Hub 16 RM and 32 RM support connection to another Hub in a "cascaded" manner, using standard 10BaseT cabling through port 16 or port 32 which are selectable as IN or OUT. The use of standard 10BaseT cabling to connect hubs is particularly valuable to network managers because it is readily accessible and cost-effective to use. The Hub 16 RM and 32 RM are essentially "plug-and-play" devices that install quickly and easily in offices with an existing 10BaseT wall jack or BNC connection. Separate brackets are included for mounting on a standard 19-inch rack, and each unit has its own power switch and internal power supply.
