Tandy Corporation Reports September Sales

Business Wire, Oct 5, 1995

FORT WORTH, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 5, 1995--(SWN)--Tandy Corporation (NYSE: TAN) reported sales of its continuing U.S. and Canadian Retail Operations for the month of September 1995 were $476.5 million, a 29 percent increase compared to $368.1 million last year. On a continuing comparable store basis, sales increased 8 percent over the prior year. Stores in the discontinued Tandy Name Brand division were excluded from the above sales results.

"New store expansion is the principal focus of the fall. In the quarter, Radio Shack opened 78 stores, increasing their net new stores for the year to over 100. Computer City opened eight new stores setting the stage for them to be the largest computer superstore chain in the fourth quarter, and Incredible Universe opened four gigastores bringing their total to 14. One time legal and plant closing charges will decrease our earnings outlook by about $0.06 per share, primarily affecting the September quarter. While the charges are relatively modest in the quarter, we are still comfortable with the outlook for the year," stated John V. Roach, chairman and chief executive officer.

Tandy Corporation, one of the nation's largest retailers of consumer electronics, sells its products through approximately 6,800 Radio Shack(R), 87 Computer City(R), and 14 Incredible Universe(R) stores.
