ICS Deloitte licenses OpenQuest's Concourse technology for OpenScan/1 data collection solution; Data Pipeline for SAP R/3 gains enhanced connectivity

Business Wire, Sept 1, 1995

CHADDS FORD, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 1, 1995--ICS Deloitte, a premier SAP consulting firm and a developer of SAP-complementary products, today announced a licensing agreement with OpenQuest Technologies Inc., a leading supplier of development tools for the data collection market. Under the agreement, ICS Deloitte's OpenScan/1 data collection solution will incorporate OpenQuest's Concourse data collection development and connectivity tool.

ICS Deloitte's OpenScan/1 is a client/server software product for integrating information from data collection devices with SAP R/3 software. Using OpenScan/1, companies can apply data collection and wireless radio frequency technology to validate and send data to SAP R/3 in real time.

OpenQuest's Concourse is an application development and connectivity tool that lets software developers utilize any combination of automated data collection (ADC) devices and host platforms. By embedding the Concourse technology in OpenScan/1, ICS Deloitte offers SAP R/3 customers a truly open solution that integrates multiple brands and types of ADC devices with SAP R/3 applications.

"Until now, there was no easy way to incorporate data from bar code scanners and other ADC devices and send it to SAP systems," said Vincent Cyr, ICS Deloitte's product manager for OpenScan/1. "Now OpenScan/1 brings the power of data collection into the SAP R/3 environment."

"As companies grow, downsize or `rightsize,' they need to be able to rapidly reconfigure data collection systems or to integrate new systems with legacy systems. By combining our Concourse technology with OpenScan/1, ICS Deloitte lets customers respond rapidly and efficiently to changing business conditions without the costly overhead of having senior level programmers rewrite and debug code," said Ronald Doeve, CEO, OpenQuest.

OpenScan/1's initial focus will be on applications involving manufacturing and distribution data collection needs. By embedding OpenQuest technology into OpenScan/1, ICS Deloitte will enable customers to address additional applications more quickly.

OpenScan/1 Release 2.0 will be shipping in the fourth quarter of 1995. Pricing is based on the number of users and sites. A typical 16-user installation of OpenScan/1 would be priced at approximately $45,000 (software only). The product will support a variety of data collection devices; ICS Deloitte is currently working with the following vendors of data collection devices: Intermec, Telxon, Norand, IBM and Symbol.
