Quantum announces DLT2000XT tape drive designed for mid-range to high-end systems; new product offers capacity boost over previous generation product
Business Wire, Sept 12, 1995
MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 1995--Quantum Corp. (NMS: QNTM) today introduced the DLT2000XT tape drive, an extension of the company's market-leading DLT2000 tape product line.
The 5.25-inch product features a capacity of 30GB compressed (15GB native) and a sustained data transfer rate of 2.5MB/second (1.25MB/second in native mode), which is double the capacity and 2 1/2 times faster than the closest competitive hilical-scan tape drive currently shipping.
Designed for midrange systems, network servers and high-end computer systems, the DLT2000XT tape drive family is available immediately.
"The introduction of the DLT2000XT tape drive demonstrates Quantum's attention to customer demand for a tape product that offers increased capacity at an attractive price," said Linda Mentzer, vice president of marketing for Quantum's Specialty Storage Products Group (SSPG). "In fact, we are already seeing wide acceptance of the product by our integrators."
"Quantum's DLT tape product line is outstanding, and we're seeing an incredible demand for the technology," said Mike Stelzner, program manager -- tape products of ANDATACO. "We incorporate the DLT2000XT tape drive and other Quantum DLT tape products into our high-performance RAPID-Tape arrays because DLT tape provides fast, reliable, high-capacity storage."
About the DLT2000XT Tape Drive
The DLT2000XT tape drive is an extension of Quantum's popular DLT2000 tape drive family. With 50 percent greater capacity, the DLT2000XT tape drive is priced only slightly above Quantum's DLT2000 tape drive.
Data compression expands the capacity of the DLT2000XT tape drives to 30GB(a) while providing a speedy 2.5MB/second(a) data transfer rate. A five- or seven-cartridge tape autoloader is offered with the new tape drive product which allows unattended backup of up to 210GB in less than 24 hours. Each autoloader features an elevator mechanism that provides random or sequential cartridge access between the tape drive and cartridge magazine.
Additionally, the DLT2000XT tape drive offers the exceptional durability customers have come to expect from Quantum products featuring a head life of 30,000 hours, and a tape cartridge life of 500,000 media passes.
Like all other Quantum DLT tape drives, the DLT2000XT tape drive is read and write compatible with all prior lower capacity drives, including the DLT2000 tape drive, the DLT600 tape drive and the DLT260 tape drive.
About DLT CompacTape
CompacTape IIIXT tape was designed specifically for Quantum's DLT2000XT tape drive and autoloaders. This media is also read and write compatible with the DLT4000 tape drive product family.
