Attachmate ships new Pentium "Plug and Play" hardware platform for Remote LAN Access; RLN Access Server provides optimized application performance for remote users

Business Wire, Sept 27, 1995

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 1995--Attachmate(R) Corp. today announced a new Pentium-based server, pre-installed with the award winning Remote LAN Node(R) 4.0 software.

The new RLN(R) Access Server allows systems administrators to quickly configure remote access for Ethernet or token-ring networks over any medium they choose -- including modems, cellular, ISDN, X.25 and switched 56Kbps.

The RLN Access Server 4.0 utilizes a 75 MHz Pentium-processor based system from Dell Computer Corp., and is delivered fully configured by Attachmate. This easy to install "plug and play" solution allows remote users to run applications, access the host, send or receive e-mail messages, and perform tasks as if they were cabled to the LAN.

The flexible RLN Access Server also functions as a modem pool server permitting LAN-attached users to dial out to popular public information services.

"We're very excited about the new RLN Access Server," said Pete Nicoletti with Data Transit International, a reseller participating in the RLN Remote Access Medallion Program (RAMP).

"RLN is becoming a very popular remote LAN access solution with our customers. The new plug-and-play server will continue to provide the flexibility our customers require, while eliminating most of the configuration work necessary with software based solutions." added Pete.

"We're taking a Best-of-Breed approach to plug-and-play remote access servers by combining the best available hardware platform with the finest remote access software," said Matt Highsmith, Attachmate's vice president world wide corporate marketing. "By bringing these two industry leading products together Attachmate is providing an optimal one step remote access solution to the customer."

The RLN Access Server 4.0 supports all the unique RLN 4.0 features right out of the box. These include:

-- Native ISDN Support

-- Enhanced NetWare Client Install

-- SNMP management support and a Windows-based manager included

-- Scaleable up to 32 simultaneous connections per RLN Server, and multiple servers function as a single "mega server." RLN's Domain Management provides a unique combination of load-balancing flexibility and fault tolerant redundancy.

-- Multiple levels of security including TACACS support for external security systems.

The RLN Access Server integrates tightly with the complete RLN suite of products including RLN Application Server. The RLN Application Server enhances the performance of data-intensive applications for remote DOS, Windows and OS/2 users.

When combined, the RLN Access Server and RLN Application Server deliver seamless integrated remote node and multi-user application server technologies, resulting in optimized remote performance for client/server, host- and LAN-based applications.

"Attachmate is continuing to solidify our leadership position in the remote access market by rounding out our product line and offering the choice of server software or a pre-installed 'plug and play' configuration," said Paul Rodwick, executive vice president of products.

The RLN Access Server allows the customer to purchase a complete Remote Access solution with one purchase order. RLN Access Server is available in configurations of 4, 8, 16, 24 or 32 port systems and can be ordered today with retail pricing ranging from $4,575.00 for a 4-port system to $17,935.00 for a 32-port system.

The RLN suite is the vital "anywhere" component of Attachmate's total enterprise connectivity solutions providing access to any application, on any host or any LAN, from "anywhere."
