HSBC Securities announces pact for Washington Analysis team to help further penetrate U.S. institutional market

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 6, 1995--HSBC Securities Inc. announced Sept. 6 that James Capel Inc. has reached agreement to take over the Washington Analysis team from NatWest Securities, a subsidiary of National Westminster Bank plc, effective immediately. Both HSBC Securities and James Capel are members of the HSBC Group.

"HSBC Washington Analysis will consist of seven analysts and will continue to be based in Washington, D.C.," said Jim O'Donnell, president and chief executive officer, HSBC Securities, and chairman, James Capel Inc.

"This outstanding research team will expand our capabilities in the institutional equities market in the United States and demonstrate the commitment of the HSBC Group to the U.S. securities marketplace," O'Donnell said.

"Washington Analysis specializes in commentary on federal political and legislative issues, and economic and monetary policy analysis, and will be an important base for development of equities products in the U.S.," O'Donnell said.

"Recent surveys have designated Washington Analysis as one of the leading research organizations, and it is recognized for initiating contact with institutions and supplying sophisticated, industry-specific analysis," O'Donnell said.

The team, which is managed by Les Alperstein, director of Washington Analysis, covers industry sectors such as telecommunications, health care, financial services and the environment. In addition to Alperstein, the team includes Debra Coy, Allen Jacobson, Doug Lee, Ira Loss, George Reed-Dellinger, and Sam Leaman.
