Electronics for Imaging ships its Fiery XJ Color Server for Xerox's new Regal 5790 Color Copier/Printer System; EFI's Fiery XJ Color Server drives the Xerox Regal 5790 Color Copier at its maximum capacity of nine pages per minute

Business Wire, Sept 7, 1995

SAN MATEO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 7, 1995--Electronics for Imaging (NASDAQ:EFII) today announced that it is now shipping its Fiery XJ family of network color server products with support for the Regal 5790 -- the latest color copier from Xerox.

With the Fiery XJ, the new Xerox Regal 5790 Digital Copier/Printer System can print high-quality, color, PostScript images from Macintosh, PC or Unix systems. Continuing an OEM partnership begun in 1991, Xerox will offer the Fiery XJ products as an option on the Regal 5790 for customers needing high-performance color document printing over a network.

"The Fiery XJ Color Servers and the Regal 5790 offer a powerful, cost-effective color printing combination for both business enterprise uses and production printing," said Mark Hill, vice president and general manager Color Solutions Business Team, Office Document Products Division, Xerox Corp. "With Fiery, we can enhance the capabilities of the Regal 5790 and offer Xerox customers a complete solution for their document production needs."

"The Regal 5790 will no doubt add to Xerox's well-deserved reputation for developing high-quality color output devices," said Jeff Lenches, executive vice president of EFI. "We're very pleased to extend our relationship with Xerox to the Regal 5790, and to further expand the market for affordable, digital color printing."

Fiery XJ Color Servers incorporate hardware and software to deliver high-speed, photographic-quality color printing on a variety of digital color copiers, including the Xerox Regal 5790. Specially designed XJ RipChips increase the output of documents by offloading all data movement functions from the server's main CPU, which is then free for Adobe PostScript Level 2 processing. EFI's Rip-While-Print technology, meanwhile, further speeds printing by enabling one page to be printed while subsequent pages are simultaneously processed. With Continuous Print, Fiery XJ servers eliminate the 10-15 second delay caused when copiers "cycle down" in-between printing different pages or jobs.

The Regal 5790 is a high-volume color copier/printer that produces color documents at nine pages per minute (ppm) on a variety of paper stocks. Using an advanced color imaging technology, the Regal 5790 offers a new level of image fidelity capable of capturing subtle shading and fine detail in photos, textures, solids and text.

The Regal Color Copier/Printer System's list price ranges from $44,500 to $47,500, depending on customer-selected option packages, while the Fiery XJ option for the Regal carries a list price from $18,500 to $34,500.
