FileNet Announces Image View 2.0; Brings Low-Price Document-Imaging Client Software To Enterprise Customers
Business Wire, April 1, 1996
COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1996--FileNet Corp. (NASDAQ NMS:FILE) today announced Image View(TM) 2.0, document-imaging software that provides low-price, feature-rich capabilities that enable organizations to image-enable thousands of desktops in enterprise environments. The client software helps users to more easily organize, manage, and access document images, ensuring information is available anywhere in an extended organization to improve corporate decision-making and customer service.
Image View complements FileNet's Image Display for Windows, a suite of software applications optimized to perform in high-volume, document-intensive production environments. Image View is designed specifically for users that need to manage and share document images and electronic folders outside of the production process across corporate enterprises. Typical Image View users would include an executive that needs to view document images on an occasional basis to grant an exception, or a manager that may need to view a document image of an invoice to answer a question from an accounts payable department.
"As workflow and document-imaging solutions are more widely deployed across an organization, companies need a broader array of software options to support a diverse mix of production and ad hoc users," said Ted Smith, president and CEO of FileNet. "Image View provides easy-to-use, proven capabilities for opening up document imaging to thousands of desktops in an enterprise."
Electronic Foldering
Included in Image View software is a browser that enables users to manage images and other documents in electronic folders. This feature provides a convenient, hierarchical structure to file and retrieve documents that closely mirrors paper filing systems. Users can also attach electronic folders to entities, such as customer names or mortgage loan numbers, stored in other applications, such as a corporate database. This capability makes it easy to handle and share documents.
Image View software provides complete support for OLE automation, allowing developers to control Image View's functions from within another application. The software is also programmable as a component object to allow development of customized document-imaging applications using standard client/server development tools, such as Microsoft Visual Basic and Powersoft PowerBuilder.
The software provides extensive annotation capabilities, enabling users to add comments, sticky notes, and highlighter annotations to document images. Due to a common implementation methodology, annotations can be shared between Image View and Image Display for Windows users. Image View supports TIFF, JPEG, FileNet, 150 different electronic forms, and FileNet COLD format documents.
Image View supports the intelligent network capabilities of FileNet Image Management Services (IMS) software that allows users to cache documents across a network, while respecting the system's security model (document access is provided only to those users authorized to display the documents).
Product Integration
Developed with Watermark document-imaging client technology, Image View offers the same ease-of-use characteristics as Watermark software, and represents delivery of the first milestone outlined in the FileNet/Watermark integration strategy. Image View provides access to both the FileNet IMS repository and the Watermark Enterprise Image Server from a single client, providing users the same "look and feel" regardless of the back-end product. The same component technology of Image View 2.0 is incorporated in FileNet's forthcoming Web applications.
Pricing and Availability
Image View, available in June, is priced at $295 per user. Volume pricing is available for large installations. Image View works with FileNet's WorkFlo(R) Business System, FileNet:WorkGroup(TM) and Visual WorkFlo(R, as well as the Watermark Enterprise Series.
