PLATINUM provides network and system management integration with HP OpenView; certification of AutoSys and DBVision systems management solutions demonstrates PLATINUM's status as an HP Premier Partner

Business Wire, April 1, 1996

OAKBROOK TERRACE, Ill.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 1, 1996-- Delivering on the company's promise for complete network and system management integration, PLATINUM technology, inc. today announced that two key PLATINUM Enterprise Systems Management Solutions have achieved Premier level of integration with HP OpenView IT/Operations. From the IT/Operations console, customers can now seamlessly utilize the PLATINUM AutoSys job scheduling tool and the PLATINUM DBVision performance management tool with IT/Operations, providing in-depth monitoring and event management. The integration firmly establishes PLATINUM as an HP Premier Partner through the HP OpenView Partner Program.

The PLATINUM products are tightly integrated with IT/Operations, a fundamental component of Hewlett-Packard's OpenView Solution Framework. PLATINUM's integration makes enterprise systems management easier by allowing the customer to manage their environment from a single point -- the IT/Operations console. The integration between these two PLATINUM products and IT/Operations will be demonstrated at NetWorld Interop booth No. 4771 in Las Vegas this week.

"Completing the integration of these products with IT/Operations demonstrates PLATINUM's commitment to provide customers with superior systems management solutions and network management integration for the Open Enterprise Environment," said Andrew J. Filipowski, president and CEO of PLATINUM technology, inc.

Accessing PLATINUM Enterprise Systems Management tools from IT/Operations gives users a single point of control for managing their systems management tools from the broader perspective of systems and network management. Other PLATINUM products that will integrate with IT/Operations include PLATINUM ServerVision, the performance monitoring and resource management tool for distributed UNIX servers; PLATINUM Apriori, the automated problem resolution/management system; PLATINUM AutoXfer, the electronic software distribution tool; PLATINUM AutoSecure, the UNIX security product; and PLATINUM NetArchive, a comprehensive system for file backup and hierarchical storage management.

"Together with PLATINUM technology, we're delivering services that help our customers improve reliability and reduce their operating costs," said Olivier Helleboid, general manager of HP's network and system management division. "PLATINUM technology and Hewlett-Packard together provide a powerful combination of proven reliability and automation for network, system, database, and applications management."

HP OpenView offers the core services for integrated network, system, application, and database management for multivendor distributed computing environments. IT/Operations is a fundamental component of the company's OpenView Solution Framework, addressing the process of problem management and operations management. By certifying at the Premier level, these PLATINUM solutions are integrated with the leading operations management framework at the most in-depth level possible. This integration allows full event and problem management to take place seamlessly between the systems management tools and the centralized management station, IT/Operations.

PLATINUM AutoSys and DBVision

PLATINUM AutoSys, a leading UNIX and Windows NT job scheduler, centralizes and automates the scheduling and management of jobs in distributed environments. Integrated with HP OpenView, it allows users to monitor and manage jobs from within IT/Operations. This single point of control for both job scheduling and network management simplifies the managing and monitoring of thousands of jobs. AutoSys brings the functionality of mainframe batch scheduling to the UNIX environment with features such as self-correcting job control, centralized system-wide monitoring, and programmable error recovery. Within the IT/Operations console, customers just point and click to launch AutoSys tasks and to process AutoSys alerts.

The PLATINUM DBVision performance management product provides 24-hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week (24 x 7) monitoring of performance metrics for relational database management systems in distributed UNIX environments. Convenient graphical and tabular displays of performance measurements help database administrators and systems administrators analyze potential problems and tune systems before problems reach users. If problems occur, DBVision can send alarms by onscreen messages, e-mail, or pager, and then automatically initiate corrective action through the IT/Operations console.

Both products work with IT/Operations at a deep level of software integration. The tight integration allows users to centrally manage systems and network operations and to exploit the full range of automation offered by PLATINUM from within the HP OpenView solution framework.

With full IT/Operations support, capabilities include support for SNMP messaging and for the IT/Operations API, allowing alarms and events to be sent directly to the IT/Operations console. Users can view messages, take action on the alarms, and perform recovery procedures while monitoring and managing all jobs from within the IT/Operations GUI. IT/Operations can also forward alarms and events to PLATINUM Apriori, the help desk product, for enhanced problem resolution capabilities. Apriori then updates IT/Operations on status and ownership changes and upon closure of the trouble ticket. Thus, messages and alerts are instantly escalated to appropriate workgroups for efficient resolution.
