Business Wire, April 10, 1996

WEST CHESTER, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 10, 1996--Mars Electronics International Inc. (MEI), a world leader in the application of electronic money handling systems and coin recognition technology has introduced its newest enhanced products -- the stand alone coin acceptor and an international coin validator for the telecommunications industry.

Mars Electronics, a member of the world-wide Mars Inc. group of companies, revealed the latest LPV Series 226 and the newest MS 16, international version, at the American Public Communications Counsel (APCC) in Las Vegas.

Mars coin acceptors are currently in use in more than 1.4 million coin telephones throughout the world. These products will increase profits and enhance payphone performance.

"The industry will see a great reduction in coin jams, slugs, handset and dial damage and most certainly frauds with our electronic coin acceptors," said Neile Wade, group director systems, Mars Electronics International Inc. "This innovative technology provides faster coin acceptance, a superior coin recognition and slug rejection which is key to the product's success."

Designed, and built in the United States, the LPV Series Electronic Coin Acceptors are a direct plug-in replacement for the 20A mechanical acceptor. The state-of-the-art plastic construction reduces wear and cuts down on readjustment problems. With one short streamlined coin path the electronic acceptor does away with protrusions and multiple coin paths found in mechanical coin acceptors.

The Mars electronic coin acceptor is able to cut lost revenues in half from the mechanical coin acceptor. There are currently more than a quarter-million LPV models in use by regulated and private telephone companies in new installations, upgrades and replacements.

The MS 16 international version is now available. It is being distributed world-wide to countries including Asia, the Middle East and Latin America.

By reducing down time, maintenance and operating costs, the MS 16 electronic coin validators increase payphone profits. The units are capable of accepting a wide variety of international currencies up to two channels of six different coins or tokens all varying in thickness and metal content.

Mars Electronics International Inc. established in 1969, is a world leader in the application of electronic money handling systems. MEI operates manufacturing plants in West Chester, Pa., Wokingham Berkshire, United Kingdom and Geneva, Switzerland.
