Seagate Software, Storage Management Group Announces Comprehensive Strategy For Oracle Database Backup; Seagate Software Joins Oracle's Systems Management Tools Initiative; Announces New Seagate Backup Director and Seagate Storage Manager Agent for Oracle for Windows NT, Providing Automated Integration of Network Backup
Business Wire, April 12, 1996
ORLANDO, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1996--Seagate Software, Storage Management Group (SMG), the combination of Arcada Software and Palindrome, today announced a comprehensive strategy for Oracle database backup, building on its participation in Oracle's Business Alliance Programme and Seagate Software's agent for Oracle for Windows NT.
Seagate Software, SMG recently joined Oracle's Systems Management Tool Initiative (SMTI), a specialized group of companies that provide systems management tools that work with Oracle database, networking and systems management products.
In support of its SMTI membership, Seagate Software, SMG announced its new agent for Oracle for Windows NT. The agent is designed to work with Seagate Software's Backup Director and Storage Manager. These products extend Seagate Software's data protection to include larger multi-LAN environments requiring advanced automation and storage management functions including archiving and HSM. The agent for Oracle for Windows NT allows users to integrate Oracle database backups into existing network backup routines, simplifying total network backup reducing administrative costs and minimizing hardware requirements.
According to Kevin Azzouz, president of Seagate Software, SMG, "One of the greatest challenges faced by companies today is database backup. Through our participation in the Systems Management Tools Initiative, we've developed a solution that is comprehensive and easy-to-use."
"Seagate's participation in our Systems Management Tools Initiative has already resulted in solutions that greatly benefit our customers," said Polly Sumner, vice president of Worldwide Business Alliances at Oracle. "The new agent for Oracle for Windows NT offers the capability to backup their most important operations and database information to the same media. And, it's done in a simplified, coordinated way."
The new agent for Oracle for Windows NT provides on-line database support which allows open databases to be protected without taking them off-line. This allows mission critical Oracle databases to remain open 24 hours per day and be backed up when they are least active. The agent assures complete data protection by protecting Oracle databases, in-process transactions, and control files.
With the new agent, Oracle server backups can be scheduled and selective restores of complete databases or individual tablespaces performed. Maximum performance is ensured with Dynamic Parallelism(TM) which automatically balances backup loads across multiple devices and SCSI buses. In addition, the agent for Oracle for Windows NT automates large Oracle database backups by providing an extensive list of autoloader support, including for multi-drive devices. Media costs and administrative overhead are reduced as a result of the agent's ability to backup network data and Oracle databases to the same media.
The Seagate Backup Director and Seagate Storage Manager agent for Oracle for Windows NT is expected to be available this month for an MSRP of $995 per Oracle server.
