Image Processing Systems Inc. — IBM orders automated inspection and alignment systems for computer monitors from Image Processing Systems; Canadian machine vision technology used to improve quality of IBM computer monitors manufactured in Scotland
Business Wire, April 12, 1996
SCARBOROUGH, Ontario--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 12, 1996--Image Processing Systems Inc. (CDN:IMPS) announced that it has received an initial order valued at $120,000 to supply IBM United Kingdom Ltd. with an Automated Display Inspection (ADI) System. The system will be installed at IBM's computer monitor manufacturing facility in Greenock, Scotland.
The ADI System will be evaluated by IBM for quality and productivity improvements in the Scottish plant's computer monitor manufacturing operations. Replacing a slow and error-prone manual process, the ADI System ensures that each computer monitor tube (CMT) is focused, full-sized, color sharp and properly positioned vertically and horizontally on the screen and that all defective CMTs are detected. Other display manufacturers using IPS systems have cut their defect rates to zero while more than doubling production rates.
"When applied to high resolution computer monitors, the benefits of our ADI Systems will be amplified," says Terry Graham, President, IPS. "With IBM's commitment to quality, I am confident that after experience with this first system, IBM will become a major customer ordering additional ADI Systems for their manufacturing facilities in Scotland and Raleigh, North Carolina."
IPS develops and manufactures proprietary machine vision systems used for automated inspection and quality verification in specialized industrial markets.
The Company's ADI Systems are used worldwide in factories of major electronics manufacturers including Philips, Siemens, Mitsubishi, Daewoo, Zenith, Thomson, RCT Sharp, Caihong Electronics, International Electronics, and Chunghwa Picture Tubes (Tatung) for the inspection and alignment of picture tubes, televisions and computer monitors. Founded in 1987, IPS trades on the Canadian Dealing Network (Symbol IMPS) in Toronto, Canada.
