Casahl Launches Replic-Action 3.0 for Lotus Notes Version 4.0; Full Utilization of Notes 4.0, Dissimilar 3.0 and 4.0 Database Replication, Scalable Real-Time DBMS Access, Additional Performance Enhancements
Business Wire, April 14, 1996
MAASTRICHT, Netherlands--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1996--Casahl Technology, a leading provider of software for integrating groupware with relational database and legacy systems, today announced the availability of Replic-Action 3.0 for Lotus Notes 4.0.
The new product allows replication between dissimilar Notes 3.0 and 4.0 databases, providing a complementary capability to Notes to assist migration and coexistence of Notes 3.0 and 4.0 applications.
Replic-Action 3.0 for Lotus Notes 4.0 features an improved Notes user interface by taking advantage of the significant new features available in Notes 4.0, such as horizontal radial buttons, hot spots, collapsible sections, agents and navigators. In addition, Replic-Action 3.0 for Notes 4.0 supports all Notes native data types, such as rich text, multi-value lists, reader names, author names and response hierarchy. The new product provides a migration path from Notes 3.0 to 4.0 and enables 3.0 and 4.0 applications to coexist through its real-time DBMS access and dissimilar Note 3.0 and 4.0 database replication.
Replic-Action 3.0's real-time data access capability utilizes the Notes 4.0 Extension Manager capability to enable multiprocess real-time look-up and update capabilities from any Notes client to multiple DBMSs. This capability allows Notes clients to be the universal front-end to corporate data and the full power of the corporate DBMS's capability of transaction, concurrency control and recovery can now be fully complemented by Notes' capability in communications, workflow and groupware support.
Replic-Action Servers can run as independent servers, unlike other products that perform replication on the Notes server as an add-in task; this feature ensures optimal performance of the Notes Server. In addition, Replic-Action 3.0 for Notes 4.0 provides automatic load balancing in real-time over a bank of Replic-Action servers, as a function of the number of Notes real-time users. With this functionality, Replic-Action is the world's first and only scalable real-time product providing support to Notes clients against any DBMS.
Replic-Action 3.0 for Lotus Notes 4.0 also offers parallel database replication, fine-tuned control of two-way incremental replication, greater flexibility in setting up workflow triggers and major server enhancements.
"With the introduction of Notes 4.0, a large number of Notes customers face significant migration issues. Replic-Action provides true Notes-style replication between dissimilar 3.0 and 4.0 databases, giving Notes customers a smooth path to Notes 4.0," said Harry Wong, President and CEO of Casahl Technology, Inc.
"We are using Replic-Action 3.0 to synchronize the existing R3 Public Name and Address Book and the new R4 Public Name and Address Book. The structures of these Notes R3 and R4 databases are different and Replic-Action is a powerful tool which makes it possible for us to migrate to Notes 4.0 while minimizing the changes to and impact on our existing R3 environment," said David Akers, Technolgy Team Leader, responsible for Infrastructure Engineering at Hewlett-Packard.
Replic-Action
Replic-Action 3.0 is a client/server based replication and migration tool, which accesses, transforms, migrates and synchronizes data between Lotus Notes and multiple external databases, both relational and legacy. Replic-Action applications can link and control interactions between multiple databases, providing workflow triggers, notifications and automated actions.
Pricing, Platforms and Availability
Replic-Action 3.0 Servers are currently available in development and production versions running on Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows 3.1 and OS/2. The product is priced at $1,500 for the Development Server and $10,000 for the Production Server, which includes the real-time capability.
