PROGINET INTRODUCES SOLUTION TO UNLOCK MAINFRAME INFORMATION FOR MICROSOFT BACKOFFICE USERS, SATISFYING LOGO REQUIREMENTS; New Generation of Fusion FTMS Integrates Microsoft's Client/Server Suite with IBM Mainframes
Business Wire, April 15, 1996
GARDEN CITY, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1996--Proginet Corporation today announces a new generation of its Fusion Transfer Management Software, raising the standard for integration of Windows(R) Networks with IBM(R) mainframe systems.
According to a recent Meta Group study, nearly three quarters of all corporate data is stored on IBM mainframe systems. The new Proginet solution empowers companies to effortlessly integrate legacy data into PC applications, databases, spreadsheets and documents. The new Fusion FTMS(TM) is expressly designed for seamless integration with Microsoft's BackOffice(R) suite and is the first software package in its class to address all BackOffice logo criteria.
This new release significantly improves performance, security, and reliability while reducing the cost of integrating IBM mainframe information with client/server installations.
INSTALLATION AND ONGOING COSTS DRAMATICALLY REDUCED
Cost of installing Fusion software and accessing legacy data are exponentially reduced. Fusion is packaged to be deployed electronically using Microsoft's Systems Management Server (SMS), according to precise specifications from Microsoft, allowing companies to remotely install software on servers that may be dispersed over a large geographic area.
Proginet has implemented an easy and high quality method called an "ActiveX(TM) Control" to embed mainframe data into applications running Windows, allowing even those with nominal computer skills, simple and efficient use of Fusion FTMS. Virtually all the popular Microsoft and third-party development tools are compatible with Proginet's new "Controls," eliminating the use of complicated protocols with their associated high costs.
IMPROVED SECURITY
Fusion FTMS improves network security by providing total access to centralized or geographically dispersed servers, with minimal administrative overhead. The improved capabilities are achieved by eliminating the necessity to supply Windows user passwords to mainframe jobs, where they were then visible to data center operations staff. Security passwords are now fully protected, without the possibility of compromise, mitigating risk exposure.
EASIER TO MANAGE WITH CENTRALIZED CONTROL
Fusion FTMS allows organizations to control all data transmission activity throughout their enterprise, from a single designated Transfer Server. This allows for significantly improved service to users. The Transfer Servers allow scheduling and auditing functions to facilitate the movement of data to and from a mainframe. The Windows-based administration software, running from a local or remote site, monitors and controls all the interaction between mainframes and all the NT Fusion Transfer Servers in the company. In circumstances where information transmissions are interrupted, Fusion can resume that transmission from the point it left off, using a new technology called Smart Checkpoint(TM). This feature more accurately determines the point at which to restart data transmission.
DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENTS IN PERFORMANCE AND RELIABILITY
Fusion FTMS provides any server running the Windows NT(R) operating system, with robust capabilities that previously only existed on IBM mainframes. The majority of processing is performed on NT servers, freeing individual user computers to run only tasks specific to the user. When the client needs to do work, it requests the server to do the work on its behalf. This reduces the complexity of network communications, improves the reliability and performance of distributed networks, and minimizes the level of resources required at the client level, potentially saving thousands of dollars per user.
