Avant! Files Amended Counterclaim Against Cadence

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1996--Avant! Corporation, the technology leader in deep submicron integrated circuit design automation (ICDA) software, today announced it has filed an amended counterclaim against Cadence Design Systems, Inc. and its chief executive officer Joseph Costello, for federal antitrust violations, securities fraud, racketeering, and other illegal acts. The counterclaim, which was amended to include charges related to additional information that became known to Avant! during the discovery process, seeks punitive and compensatory damages and injunctive relief to stop Cadence's unlawful trade practices and anti-competitive activity. Avant! filed the amended counterclaim, No. CV 95-20828 RMW (PVT), on April 12, 1996 in the San Jose office of the U.S. District Court, Northern District of California.
